Problems starting on cold days
Problems starting on cold days
I was wondering if anyone could help me out with a small problem I just started having. Whenever the temperature is around freezing or below my truck won’t start on the first try. When I try to start the truck when it is cold it makes a half turn then just stops, when I try again it starts. This doesn’t happen when the truck is already warm. Is this normal for the Lightning or is something wrong? If something is wrong then the only thing I can thing of is a bad battery, alternator, or starter.
Can anyone shed some light?
Thanks,
Pete

Mine dose that after it sits outside at work all day. Only dose it ever so often tho.
Even my moms 2 month old 03 F-150 used to do it. One day it would start then just die. Could only keep it running if you kept your foot on the gas. Turned out to be a sticking IACV.
But i have talked to a few other L owners that have the same problem

I too have the same problem on cold mornings but mine is more after the truck starts, it sounds likes it's going to die at 500 rpms and keeps doing that until I start stepping on the gas. I'm thinking it could also be the IAC.
My Trans Am does that, but it's understandable being 26 years old. It also idles at about 650 RPM, which is intentional, to keep that gas guzzler from guzzling so much gas (it's got a Hi performance Holley carb on it.)
But I've never had that trouble with the 03 Supercrew.
