Shane,

I have both a Lightning and Cobra as you know...

They are both fun...

But the Cobra is just another animal...i've had more fun in this car than anything i've ever driven...whether its a stoplight or the highway this thing rips...then i put the Kenne Bell on and some other goodies...and i was AMAZED...of course at those h.p. levels i've run into tunning issues, how to put the power down on the IRS..and so on...but i've stuck through it and when this is done it is going to be a monster.

The one thing i love about it is when i get on the highway..its superfun.

As far as daily driving it...the clutch is hard, and the tranny feels sluggish, the Lightning is a million times better for driving it everyday.

Looks factor..i get alot of looks in it, and that was even before the wheels, but the whole reason behind this car is the Fun Factor...i cant stress how much fun it has been.

If you are able to add one to the collection...go for it, find a leftover 2003 model and you will get a killer deal on them.

Either way...both are fun

I drive it alot though. On a nice day with the top down and just cruisin' and playing the tunes it is fun as hell. It is about the only time I prefer it to the L.
Definately would not sell the L for one.
Great second vehicle IMO.
No flames , just my opinion.

Thanks Vinnie, that's just what I was looking for. I am not looking to trade the truck in on one. I just can't seem to get rid of the truck yet. I would love to have one next to the Lightning. I just am not sure how soon I can get one and how realistic I am beeing by dreaming for one.

Thanks SVTBlackBolt, I love your car. I would not be able to put a KB on it if I got it, but I hope I could at least change the pulleys out and put in a chip and see what happens... As for reliability, even as a 2nd car, have you had any issues with it? Also resale value, if I ever have to get rid of it, in a year or two, any clue how much of a loss I will take?
Thanks, Shane

both the Cobra and Lighting are fun to have.. My prefference is still the LIGHTNING by FAR!

The Cobra a neat toy, however unless you really must have a sports car, just mod your truck more.

I love the truck also don't get me wrong. And I would LOVE a built motor, a built trans and some cams BUT I think as happy as that would make me, I'd be just throwing that money away. I would never see it again!
Where as the Cobra, I may lose a few grand, over a few years. I'd have to insure it on top of my truck, but it will still hold SOME value if I need to get rid of it. I know it isnt the best of investments, but I've thought about putting money into the truck and I know that isnt any better. I hope at least with the Cobra I really know what I'm getting into. (I don't know anything about built motors... I'd just be paying someone else to do it. Half the fun is doing it yourself. Right now, there is no way I can do that.)
Plus if I do build the motor, I'd want to do it right. That could take a lot of money and a lot of time. I only have one car. So I wouldnt have any way of getting around and the truck would be down for a little while...
With the Cobra, if I ever need to get out of it, i could and depending on the price I get the car for, and sell it for, I'd only take that much of a hit. Apose to thousands of dollars into the truck I may never see again...
Thanks, Shane

Madness,

True about the sports car thing...but as far as fun...i'd it to the Cobra...but then again they are fun in different ways..but to each his own..

Shane,

Right now on a Cobra, you could get a full exhaust,2.77 pulley,Filter,t/b, and ported Eaton and you will be looking at atleast 480rwhp...and running very low 11's...its being done.
The bottom end can handle it...

Resale value-Shane unfortunatly you will lose in both..big time.

But its worth it

I'm trying to convince the wife to let me ditch our current piece of Euro-trash (a 2000 911 Carrera) in favor of a Cobra that I can play with and a 911 Turbo with an Evo Motorsports Stage 4 kit for her. Figure I could get the Cobra up to 500hp or so and the 911 would be putting down about 540-550 at the wheels. Wouldn't be a bad stable of vehicles...just need to convince her it's a good idea!

So I have to pick if I want to put the money into the new Cobra, even more into the Lightning (and get in over my head where I can't get out), or keep it where it is, in the bank! A few days ago I was all set, putting the money in the bank for the next few months. (and saving for a house) I don't have that many bills, just school and insurance. Gas and food I've gotta pay for also, but that's a given. I just wish I could do something with the money that is going into the bank every month. I wish I could pay $400 a month for the Cobra and two years from now, NOT be in backwards and be able to get close to what I paid for it. But there is 0% chance of that happening. Who is going to let me drive a car for free for 2 years?
Then I'd be putting money into it like I did to the truck... A few hundred dollars here and there adds up! Now there is no way we are going to be breaking even here. I'm paying monthly for the new car that is going down in value every day. I am paying insurance on it, which I'll never see again, and I'd be doing mods to it every other weekend. Where do I get off calling it an investment?
On the other hand, you only live once. So bust out the credit card right...

it all comes down to this:

how many holes in the ground do you want to have that you can continue to dump an endless stream of money in?

me:

_Lightning__ _Cobra__
(_________) (_______)

those two holes, are infinite... you can continue to poor money as long and as fast as you can... and never reach the end...

Just keep that in mind... if your heart is set, the Cobra is neat as hell, get one

on the road course, the cobra is an absolute BLAST!!!!

I'm 6'3" at 230 lbs. and I fit mine without any issues. I have the seat run to the back of its travel, but I do that in every car I sit in. I drive it regularly, and have never had any problems.......To me it's more fun to drive than my "L" was.

MadNess I couldnt get those pics to show up. I am not registered on that site... Anyway is there any way to predict how much the resalve value of the car will be two years from now? I know I can figure out payments, and what I put down, and what I owe on it 2 years from now... But is there any way I can try to see what the car will be worth two years from now? The new 05's would just be coming out then, and the 03 and 04's would have been around for over a year or two... Any clue what a used 03 Cobra would go for two years from now? I am just trying to get a ball park estimate on how much I'd be loosing if I did this.
I know that isnt a good sign going into something, fiquring out how much you're going to loose... But o well.

honestly, its all contingent on the area you live in, and how often the cobras are encountered and how motivated sellers will be in 2 years.. the only way to stand a chance of not taking a huge loss is to make a GREAT deal on one to start with... get an xplan pin from Suavy, then find a dealer to sell you a cobra at X-plan, put 5gs down and I bet you will be in GREAT shape in 2 years.
