help tech experts....

Hi guys, I have a problem.

After installing my phenolic spacer truck ran fine for 3 days.

Then when I hooked up my trailer and pulled my Cobra to the
track........Service Engine soon light came on......only about
a mile from my house after I left.

The truck seems to run rough at idle and even stalled twice
at stoplights during the 3 hour drive to another track.

Well.........I ended up running the truck at the race anyway, since
it ran "ok" when I tested it down the road near the track,
even though the SES light was still on.

The truck ran 12.62@106mph....so performance seemed
at least 95% dead on??????

Well I got the truck put on the Ford computer last week by
a friendly dealership......I pulled the chip, but told the guy
everything that is on the truck etc......He knows I race and the
truck has a few goodies on it.

The codes he was getting and showing to me were......
the fuel trims were "maximium" over compensating at idle +25%
to richen and the truck was still showing a lean condition at idle....
....like a vacuum leak or a line undone, or low fuel pressure????

He said the fact that I towed something and the light popped on
was probably just a coincidence????? The only thing he had
doubts about was the spacer?????? He said take it off and try
that....well those who have one know it's not that easy, and
I sprayed carb cleaner around it and truck never changed idle.
..and we couldn't find any lines off or hear any sucking????

I wanted to come on here and ask the Tech Gurus if they had
any other ideas??????

I will pull the spacer, but I have a feeling it won't change
anything....and I need to run the truck one last time this
Saturday at the Cecil SSOTN shootout....and I want it to
perform at it's best.

Anybody had any trouble with their phenolic spacer doing
anything weird??????? I used 2 gaskets (1on top 1 on bottom)
and it seemed like a fool proof bolt on.

thanks guys......
anything.

No "expert" here but I would always pull the IAC and clean it when having idling/RPM problems. Sounds like the valve may be dirty?

I had a problem, I installed the spacer ran up to Louisiana, about 230 miles there and then back, on the way back I was really getting down, and right before I got home she started to miss at idle.

I had to drop to natural and back to drive to get home. Pop the hood and found the plastic vacuum line that goes over to the EGR Valve, had been resting on that metal tube that is coming from the exhaust, and had melted the convoluted tubing then the vacuum line.

This happened when I reshaped the tube to fit to the next higher position, IT stretches that vacuum line, and it hits the tube. I cut the line installed a compression fitting (I believe it’s a 5/8” ID and held it back with a tie wrap), it has worked like a charm ever since! Hope this helps!!
