Any particular reason why you went with the Stage 2's? Any reason that you wouldn't go with the Stage 3's?
mainly I didn't want to go overboard.

my truck is primarily a street truck. granted, it may see more track time than most street trucks, but I didn't want to go overboard and wish I hadn't, that'd be an expensive mistake.

I figured stage 2 would be an improvement in power with a nice sounding idle without being "too much".

also I wanted to avoid driveability problems and low vacuum problems etc.

if you look at the description, they say the stage 3 makes it's power from 2000-7000+ RPMs!

STAGE 3
Designed specifically for supercharger applications for street/strip.
RPM Range: 2000 to 7000+ on 4.6L, 5.4L will be lower
How many people here turn their lightnings up to 7000+ RPMs???

I know it says lower for 5.4, but they don't say if its 100 rpm lower or 1000 rpm lower.

I didn't want to lose low end torque, so I figured I'd "play it safe".

we'll see if it pays off or not.

later,
chris

P.S. Sorry Justin, I wasn't trying to hijack the JDM cam special thread... so back on track everybody! JDM is selling THEIR cam combo on special this month! lets talk about that. I'll start another thread for my crap. sorry

I'd love to get cams, the sound of those combined with the LT's

I guess the added power would be a bonus

honestly I've spent so much on the truck in the past month that I can't remember exactly...

I THINK that it was around 1300 bucks for CAMS, RETAINERS, SPRINGS, STAINLESS VALVES, FORD SPROKETS, SPACERS, BOLTS, WASHERS, in other words everything but keepers.

check with mark at www.performanceautosport.com

that's where I got them from

BTW, titanium retainers are not recommended for street use.

chris

Struck in AZ,

They are the Crower stage 2's with our centerline. They are rifle drilled for less rotating weight.. From the beginning we have worked with Crower on development on the cams. We did most of the testing for them for Crower. Our springs and retainers will work with your 1 mm oversized valves on both the intake and exhaust side.

LightningCT,

You don't have to worry about the rods as long as your vehicle is tuned correctly for the new power. Since you have our chip we can take care of that for you.

DaveRed99,

Thanks for the kind words.

Latemodelracer,

On the basic power upgrade trucks with lower boost we have seen35 HP and 40 ft-lbs torque. There is definite power to be had even on the mildly upgraded trucks. I'll say it again, these cams will make your truck shout out a totally different tone. It is truly a unique sound.

Hope this helps,

Justin@JDM

I think it will be worth it just for the lopy idle.

That was one of the things I liked the best! I loved hearing those cams in a few of the trucks I have heard. Its not a nasty chug chug like an old carb'd motor would have....its lopey, but...refined? You just have to hear it....very exotic sounding!

Tommy,

You posted to E-Mail you about you're cams. I'm curious to know what the horsepwer gains are with your cams. What type of testing you have done to back up your info. How is the idle quality? How much do the cams actually weigh? See, I have all the data to back up ours. Our cams are also rifle drilled to make them as light as stock where as most aftermarket camshafts are 3 pounds heavier than stock, that's a lot rotating mass. See, we spent two months working with Crower on the stage 2 design. We have an additional three separate grinds that were used towards different engine mods. With the stage 3 cams we have lost a ton of torque and horsepower because you are just blowing the boost right out of the exhaust due to the duration and the centerline of the cam. Before I go selling parts to people I test them so I am sure my customers are going to receive the power they are expecting.

Ouch...

Jim, I think he was trying to be nice on a JDM thread. No reason to bite his head off.

I think people understand that JDM typically does more research/testing (if nothing else due to their large customer base).

If someone chooses to buy from a vendor that doesn't have the large base/experience, than that's the customers call...

Looks like a really good cam package. Once my engine blows, I'm sure I'll order it

Lightbulb Coldie....

Tommy should have started a new thread period. There is nothing in his post that even comes close to the JDM special that was being advertised. As a supporting vendor he should've made a different choice!!!
