Ya gotta PAY to PLAY ...

Well, I guess I was a bit too aggressive at Topeka. I toasted
my front rotors. So now I have brand spanking new slotted
Brembos mounted up. Cost me $70 to get them installed
(Need a INCH/POUNDS torque wrench to do them!) at
Ashley's Wheel and Brake --- the only place I trust with my life
(grin). Christine stops on a dime again without that violent
shaking ...

Total hit was a bit over 850.00, so the cost of that racing
weekend went up a tad ... But the FUN FACTOR was more than
worth it. I just gotta learn to more conservative. (Yeah, right! I
drive a Lightning, fercristsakes ...)

Happy Halloween everyone ...

Cliff

Are you saying you toasted some Brembo rotors (i.e., the big rotors which come with a full meal deal Brembo GT system)? You should not be able to dish out enough road course abuse to hurt them. Some changes in your practices may save your new rotors from the same fate.

Have you read the entire Stop-Tech site? I strongly recommend it. According to Stop-Tech, there is no such thing as a warped rotor, only uneven deposits of pad material, most of which can be prevented by the right practices.

I just surfaced my Brembo rotors this week. I will be taking them out and bedding the pads this weekend. This is apparently a critical step for mximum rotor life.

Tim ...

I bedded them correctly according to the instructions
on the Brembo site... They were running in excess
of 6 thousandths out of round ... The only thing
I can think of is that I was VERY aggressive at Topeka
and turned in VERY late on most of the corners. My
Instructor kept on me to try to get the ABS to kick in
so we would know where the "threshold" was ... I don't
think I ever did get it to kick ... I saved the old drilled
rotors just in case I find out something else contributed
to the shimmy ... but it only happened on braking so I
think that it must have been the rotors.....

More testing tomorrow and Sunday ... <grin>
