Problem with stock tonneau cover.

My L come with a Ford bed liner and tonneau cover which I have a problem with. It came with 2 polls to support it(at lease that what Im thinking its for), they are not the same. One is shorter than the other. There are 2 spots to put them in, the long one fits in the spot by tail gate but the shorter one doesn't fit any of them. What am I missing here???

I need help with this because I don't like how the center of it bounces up and down when Im driving.

If I remember back 2.5 years when I had my 2000, the poles are different lengths. The bars on my extang on my 03 are all different lengths as well. I have to play around with the clamp position on the stock cover to get the poles where they were supposed to go. Try adjusting the clamp forward or back a little bit until you get them to work. I am also pretty sure that the short one goes on the tailgate end!

Short one goes to the rear, long one goes to the front.

The short one does NOT fit eather spot. Thats the problem, the long one fits the one at the end toward the tail gate but does not fit the one towards the cab.

Only the long one fits in the spot at the end of the truck. The short one does not fit there and both are not long enough to fit at the front.

I hope this is understandable.

Please help.

Well, then I guess take it in for warranty. Maybe you have the correct short one, and the one that doesn't fit at all is supposed to be the long one. They are also spring loaded, so make sure they collapse with spring tension as well, might be a broken spring.

Correct short one???.......The short one does not reach from one side to the other no matter where it is in the bed, the long one does fit in the one in the back, and the spring in both of them works.

Man this is confusing, maybe I need to go ahead and get a hard tonneau now instead of latter.

What he was trying to say is: your "long one" is the correct "short one." Your "short one" does not belong to your truck. You need the correct "long one." Take it to the dealer and they will take care of it. -Mat-

Hehe, what I meant was the one you have that's the longer of the two, may be the correct short one for the set, and they gave you the wrong part (even shorter one) in place of the correct long one.

It doesn't make you dumb. We all have our own brain lapses at time. Just get it to the dealer so they can make it right! -Mat-

can't adjust it?

on my 03, with the stock tonneau cover, the two ribs are adjustable. there is a small dial inside both ribs that adjusts the tenison for each rib...that way i can move the two ribs where i want them....maybe my stock tonneau isnt stock?

If your long one fits in the short hole, it's prolly the
short one. The short one is prolly the wrong one, and
the factory tonneau with the plastic strip hold down is the
best design I've ever used.

I couldn't have carried all the tires I needed to Topeka
in a hard tonneau setup. The soft top just kinda stretched
over the top of the tires.
