If you dont mind my asking how many miles did you have on the truck and how many of those did you have your 6# in?

I have had my 6# on since 1000 miles on the truck and now have 20,000 miles. I thought I was safe since it hasnt blown yet but I am leaning towards at least yanking the motor out and throwing in some rods.
NTIMD8, It had 21 thou on it. I had the 6lber on at about the 8 thou mark. But I did alot of kick downss, and drove the snot out of it! As long as you dont kick down alot, you should be ok. Thanks, Jeff

Hmm I dont know if the way I drive is considerd hard or not? I think I will do the rods at least. That way If I put a 55-75 shot of N20 I will feel safer. Wish I could afford to do the whole bottom end but just the rods for what I want out of the truck will be more then enough.

Thanks for the info!

Blown SVT,
AT what speed were you running when you and the Z28 commenced your race?(I'm assuming it was from a roll.) Do you remember about what rpm and gear you were in when she let go? Or at what speed? Did she let go immediately after downshifting, or were you well into 3rd when she went?

The reason for my questions is that I'm knowingly pushing the limits of my stock internals, but want to try to keep 'er together as long as possible. There are certain things that I just won't do in terms of driving characteristics, in an effort to prolong my motor's life, and am just curious as to at what point your's let go.

I appreciate any info in advance

Thanks,
Rob

Question Blown:

if your considering flooring it at around 30 a kickdown, at what speed do you think it is safe to mat it.....or do you think it is at all? reason I ask is becaus eI tend to do this alot too, but mainly at highway speeds when some rice tries to pass me AND I cant afford to go through what your going through unfortunately.

What was the temp? It seems that whenever the temps start dropping, so do bottom ends. Also, were you running an "agressive" chip program?

Thanks,
Edward

Question anybody

Blown or anybody else, after reading what yall are calling a kickdown, how bad is it to floor it running around 70 mph...my truck has a 6# and an aggressive program on the chip. Do you think I'm at risk to blow the hell outta mine? I tend to do this alot. Really cant afford a rebuilt engine or eaton. Also, while we are on it, is it worse on the truck to do a kickdown from lower or higher speeds? I know the obvious answer is both but come'on yall, we drive Lightnings!

Memo to QIKSLVR

If you continue to enjoy those 70mph "kick-downs" @ 70 w/ a 6 lber, start saving for a new built short block. You'll be needing one

Those kick-downs produce tremendous cylinder pressures which are rod breakers, atleast with stock rods or something..........

I tend to get my need for speed, from a dead stop, which is alot easier on the stock rods, as you load the rods gradually

I agree with you on what you said above...

Jeff sorry to hear about the Kaboom! Good luck with getting the new motor in. Shane

QIKSLVR, exactly what Fast Gator said. All kick downs are gonna take a toll on the motr eventually, no matter what speed your goin, but I think it takes more of a toll on the under 30 kick downs due to the torque your generating at that speed.

Thanks Shane, hopefully it'll be even better when I get it back! I'm gonna take it to 66 when it opens in the spring to find out!
