Different kind of fog light trick

I want to be able to run my fogs without the headlights being on just like everybody else. The difference is I want to run the fogs off a separate switch and not have them tied in with the parking lights. I have blackouts on my truck and there are times I want just the fogs. Can anybody tell me how to go about this, or do you know which wire is hot for the fogs? I don't know a whole lot about wiring but I have a friend who helps me with it.

Lets see, while I don't claim to be a genius in these (or really any) areas, I would assume it would be as simple as this.

1. Go to autozone, radioshack, whatever and get a simple switch.

2. There should be two wires coming from the foglights. One will lead to a screw, that's the ground. The other is the power. Cut that wire and hook both of them up to the switch.

3. Get a new wire and connect the switch and splice it to the power wire you cut. You will most probabley also have to ground the switch.

Also, just on a review of the idea, the power from that line will only go when the headlights are on. You may want to just tap the fusebox for the power.

That should help out. NAPA sells fuse box taps. I'm not sure of your fuse box configuration, but do a search because you want a fuse that has power only when the car is on (or whenever radio is running, whatever).

That should be everything. To ground the switch just find a screw (best bet is one already with a ground on it) and put on a "ground connector" I guess. NAPA or autozone or radioshack or whatever would have it. It is a small metal peice that fits on the end of a wire that turns into a metal circle.

Mount the switch wherever you wish, and that should be everything. Exept I'm unsure of where the power to the foglight is from, and I'm unsure of what to do with that wire. I would just cap it off, as if there is no ground, my understanding is electricity will not run through it.

OK, now that should be everything. Any questions, post em, and I'll check out my fog lights that I haven't bothered to install.

I haven't inspected the fog lights but I thought the wiring was a little more complicated. If it is just power and ground I can figure it out, just run it right off the battery or alternator. I hope that's the case.
