And apparently every truck has a different wiring schemetic as well. Originally posted by moshe

You mentioned you had a switch, is this so you can turn it on in the cab? If so are you running the fan while driving over 30 – 35mph? If that is the case you “could” be burning up the fan motors by doing so.
The biggest mistake people make is to think you need the fan running all the time. You ONLY need the fan running when at idle or at speeds below 30 – 35mph.
At speeds greater then 30 – 35 mph there is sufficient air flow through the radiator. I know this from personal experience and won $500 in a bet proving it. Had a brother-in-law that thought he knew everything. I had a 69 Dodge with a 318 in it and had a clutch fan that was frozen up. It would heat the engine up because there was a TON of drag on the motor due to the clutch fan being frozen. I took it off when driving back and forth on the freeway.
Expert brother-in-law said I was an idiot and would overheat the engine doing that. I explained to him what I stated above about NOT needing it above speeds of 30 – 35mph. He refused to believe. Since I loved going to Las Vegas (was about 4 ˝ hrs) from where I lived in CA I bet him $500 I could drive the car to Las Vegas in the middle of the day with NO problems. He took the bet (sucker). I unbolted the fan and we took off to Las Vegas with NO problems of overheating, never got over 180 degrees (normal temp).
Anyway, if you are running the fan with a manual switch when driving over 30 – 35mph the air flow will cause a serious load to be placed on the electric fan blades, almost like if you were holding on to them before turning them on and that WILL cause the fan motors to draw HIGH current and eventually do a few things such as open breakers of fuses, cause wires to overheat and melt or worse completely burn out the electric fan motors…
Clutch fans are NOT engaged when you’re driving above 30 – 35mph they FREE spin causing very little load on the engine. Flex fans will bend to reduce the load on the engine but are WORSE then clutch fans since they are always spinning. Electric fans cause NO load on the engine because they are externally mounted. The reason people see a slight horsepower gain with electric fans is because what I stated, they put NO load on the engine.
Also if you if the fans were not wired correctly with the correct polarity that can cause problems as well with overheating of the wires, cause breakers and fuses to open and burn out the fan motors.
Something you can check is to see if the fan blades spin easy. Spin them with your hand slowly and they should feel smooth all the way through 360 degrees. If you feel any slight dragging at points they may be binding/rubbing in some areas and that can cause problems. Could be the rotor rubbing the core inside or could be the bearings.
I have never bought anything from JDM but can tell you that they DON’T make these electric fans. They buy them from a distributor and just like anything else on the market NOBODY makes 100% perfect product. So you may have just got a bad one. JDM nor anyone else can 100% test all their product before they sale it to the public.
NOTE: Electric fans have nothing to do with how many miles someone drives...

Sorry you had trouble with your kit. I have installed two kits and made a kit using JDM's wiring harness because it was so simple and easy.
Sorry to hear these are such a P.O.S. I mean, mine's been on for a year and a half and both Eluzion and I drove down to JDM's shop , about 7 hours each way at the end of June sitting in NYC traffic. Guess I really took a chance huh???

As long as JDM has been selling these fans, I haven't seen any posts complaining about it's quality until now. I don't have one; but, I wouldn't have a problem buying it from them based on expected performance and quality.
I am not a JDM "Robot Responder."

I've had my JDM fan on for 27,000 miles and no problems. Jims fan kit is the best out there IMO. BTW Jims kit uses a Ford fan so you might just be mad at the wrong person.

Wow that the first time i ever heard that JDM lied to someone
Stay on them and good luckAnd people im sure if JDM would have replace it when they said moshe wouldnt have a problem . But typical of JDM they take your money then ***** you ! Lets hear it for customer service!!

Amazing. It took this long for somebody to bash the vendor. You're a class act!Originally posted by retics4me

Sounds to me like an incorrect wiring job or a faulty part. Sometimes stuff happens and things are defective.
So just get if fixed then enjoy it.

Are people overlooking the part where he did contact JDM? Sounds like it was just an faulty part in the assembly, happens a bit. He contacted JDM back in early September, and is still waiting on the part to come in. Sounds like he is fed up and frustrated not only because the fan died, but because he's been waiting so long for a replacement part. Have some empathy for him. There really isn't much more he can do but call the vendor every single day and ride them until it comes in.

this begs a question..
If it has a manual switch I'm assumming that is to be used between runs to assist in cooling down the engine correct?
For normal daily driving it is attached to some sensor to turn on and off as the temperature rises Correct?
Running the fan all the time will cause the fan motor to overheat and thus lead to overheating problems

But the fans should be wired up so that everytime the A/C runs, the fans should be running too, so that the A/C doesn't overpressurize. Fans should be capable of running for hours straight. I've had my Flex-a-lite fans running constantly, from the time it starts up til I turn the truck off, for the last two years, although it did just melt the fuse holder

But, we are only hearing a very samll part of the story. Was it faulty wiring and/or installation? Was it a faulty part in the electric fan set up? Was it faulty use? Many variables that should be addressed without coming on here and bashing a product that many others have and is working flawlessly. If he has a problem with the vendor, then that's one thing, but he's blaming the part. Originally posted by Brian Baskin
