4# or 6#

Its probably been discussed some, but as long as I have my truck dyno tuned will I be safe with a 6# lower? I have the Diablo chip already and I was looking to buy a 4#. The deal fell thru and now I am able to pick up a 6# for a good deal. My truck is a daily driver with chip/air/magna/little head work and a few other little things. I dont want to shorten the life of her to much with a 6#. What do you guys think.

Thanks in advance!!

If I could find a 5# for at or near the same price as the 6# then there would be no problem.

Can anyone tell me anything about the 4 vs. 6? Will I be ok with a 6 on a daily driver with the right tune?

Yes, with the proper tune. There are a few here who are doing it with no problems. Make sure to get it Dyno'd immediately though with the chip to make sure.

this is a new thread discussing someone who not only is running 6 pounds of boost, but also Nitrous. You should be ok.

A good tune is the most important thing....a 4# with a bad tune is much worse than a 6# with a good tune. Put it on a dyno and have the A/F checked, and don't go crazy with the timing. Also, if you want any longevity with the 5.4, keep the rpms below 5300. Until you get around 450rwhp, a good tune and limited rpms will go a long ways toward keeping it safe. Above that, and you should offer daily sacrifices to the Rod God, carry a rabbits foot, or have stock in Manley.

I tend to think that the benefits of going from a 4# to a 6# are pretty small, because at higher RPM's, you are probably at the flow capacity of the blower. A 6# should give a little more low end, since boost will build quicker.

As others have said, I think the tune is everything. An overly aggressive tune on a 4# is worse than a good tune on a 6#.

I would personally ask for a mild to moderate tune. I mean seriously, what's the big deal about trying to squeeze another 25HP by super aggressive timing and high A/F's. I'm more than happy to sacrifice 0.2 sec in the 1/4 mile for the peace of mind of a good, safe tune.

I would go 6# since I am disappointed in my truck's performance with a 4#. Go 6, and you will never look back... just do not go over 6 as you may end having a rod poke a hole in your block.

Man!!!! In my mind was convinced to go with a 4#. I guess I am scared of the durability with a 6#.

Ya'll are talking me into it though!!

My truck is used as my daily driver. I run a 2LB upper & 4LB lower.
From what I've heard it's safe, Not to mention the power is awesome. Hell...I ran an 8.50 @ 82.27MPH on street tires.
New times to come soon w/ new traction.
