How many qts of fluid for the FTVB?

Plan on installing on Saturday. Truck only has 900 miles and I was going to get a brand new clean container for the existing fluid and re-use it. If I can get most of it and keep it clean, how many qts of Dextron III/Mercon do I need?

Thanks

I'd pass on that idea! Why hassle trying to save the fluid and then taking the chance of introducing contaminants (and major headaches!) when the 6 quarts of Dextron/Mercon are not all that expensive. Do yourself a favor and just dump the stuff in there and add new!!!

If you're getting the 4x4 pan you'll need 6 qts. 5 qts for the stock pan I believe. If you do a quick search for FTVB you'll see some instructions that were posted recently. It's only a $1.xx/qt so just buy some new stuff.

Stock pan is 6 quarts and the deep 7-8 quarts! That's per the FTVB instructions.... Best bet to have an extra quart over that just in case.

when doing it. Don't you need to use a PUMP to get all the fluid out? then change it and plug in new fluid?

No pump is needed if you do it normally. I'm not sure what the procedure is to flush the entire tranny though.
