Anyone who has headers....

Well, I installed my headers this weekend and everything went roughly, haha, but at about 8 last night I got them on, they sounds AWESOME.

My problem is about 5 minutes down the road my O/D light starts blinking and my truck is not shifting, just staying in 4. I can put it in reverse and it engages fine everywhere, just won't shift. I'm taking it to ford tommorrow, but in the meantime does anyone have any suggestions. I talked to Sal and he feels it's probably a wire fried somewhere on the pass side, but I've been unable to find it.

If anyone has any suggestions I'm all ears. I've reset the PC, tried without the chip and everything I can think of....I don't feel it's the tranny, I think it's electrical.

Thanks in Advance, Ed

Check your TPS wires. Any codes? Are you getting an SES light?

I'm with Sal, get under there and make sure eveything is plugged into the trans and that no wires are fried. Also, look around the headers and exhaust to make sure nothing is melted on them. Other than that, the headers should have nothing to do with the trans.

I'll bet on the passenger side some wires were melted.

I'm throwing the SES light yes. Where are the TPS wires, I know there is a sensor by the Intake. But other than that, I'm kinda flyin blind here, before this all I've done to the truck is pullies and such.

Easter: I checked and checked the pass side. The 02 extender was a little burnt up, so I fixed that, but still no luck. Even that shouldnt' hinder the tranny.
Maybe I'll pull the drivers side tonight.

The wires that may have been melted go to the PCM as mentioned above.

Remove the passenger side tire & wheel cover. You will see a bundle of wires going into the engine bay. Make damn sure they are as far away as possible from the headers as you can get them. You will probably need to bend the bracket some to accomplish this. I'm assuming you are talking about long tubes??!!

Go to your local Auto Zone / O'Reily's auto parts store and they will read code you are throwing for free. This way you will know what's wrong.

Good luck....

Been a while since I posted, but here it goes....

Check your O2 sensor wires, more than likely they got damaged. Believe it or not, damaged O2 wires will cause some very strange problems in the PCM, INCLUDING seemingly apparent problems with the transmission. Properly fix, or completely replace those wires and the problem should dissappear. I heard of this exact problem on other trucks just after header install.
Regards

After fooling with it all weekend, I'm just gonna take it in for service and pay them to figure it out, I'm just tired and have too many other things to do right now. I looked all last night and to be honest I'm tired of looking at it. I honestly couldn't find anything but the 02 sensor even close to touching on the pass side. I'll peek in the drivers side tonight and see....I think i may have just messed with the linkage or something, who knows, hopefully it's simple.

Otherwise I'll get a monster box

Don't take it in for service just yet.

Get under there and check out all the wiring. Make sure all the sensor(s) wires are away from the headers and not burnt, zip tie them back if need be.

Also double check the wires with the heat shielding around them, make sure they are away from the headers as well. Just because they have protection doesn't mean they can sit right on the headers.

Check your fuses under the hood man. I am not sure which fuse it but my brother had the same problem. Broken O2 sensor wire and and a blown fuse. Trans stays in 3rd gear. Check your fuses. -Mat-

I will check a couple more things tonight I guess. I checked all the fuses inside, but I guess I'll have to take a look under the hood and see. I would guess it's stuck in 3rd or 4th....I could be wrong.

I might should pull that o2 extender out, I taped it up, and it didn't appear that the wire was broken.

I just figure the dealership can scan the port and it will give them a plan of attack....we'll see how I feel tonight.

Thanks again for all your info, if anyone has anything else, let me know.

It is a heated Oxygen sensor fuse and is 15 amps. I am not sure on the exact fuse number. -Mat-

Well the 02 sensors were definately shorting as two wires were showing metal and hit the header....Are we talking fuses in the cab under the dash, or by the drivers side under the hood??

I already fixed the wires, but am wondering if the fuse is blown and still throwing a code, I guess I will check all my 02 fuses just to see.
