Never Again....

Will I ever try to install Headers. It has been one problem after the next. I had to clean the threads on every bolt, retap one hole, fight every single thing in the install....and when I finally get the damn things in I drive not 3 minutes and the O/D light starts blinking and the check engine light came on.

Sal tried to explain to me how to fix it, but I can't find the harness....so I guess my truck is on it's way to Ford....

I'd rather change plugs than headers

That's the end of my rant.

Just remove your negative side of your battery for about a mintue, reconnect it, and drive it again. You should be able to make that check engine go away, check by the tranny make sure you didnt mess up the electrical connection while working in that area.

I tried to disconnect the battery, but honestly the SES light didn't come on until the tranny light did. So I know it's something small, or at least I hope it is. I'm just probably missing it somewhere. I will give any amount of money that Sal is right, I just can't seem to find it myself. I'm sending it up to Ford tomorrow to have them fix it....Sounded great for the few minutes it ran

I don't know about that one. I helped Jon over the weekend do his LT's and his install was more of a pain in the butt then mine was, well a little easier but more of a pain and more bumps in the road them mine was.

Hopefully this winter when I pull mine off to change the gaskets it won't be as bad. But I used the paper gaskets that came with them, why did I have no idea. But I'd rather change them out before they blow.

maybe it woulda been easier if you weren't throwing little twigs and rocks at me while we were workin' on it!!!!

yes we hit a few bumps. installing the LTs with the bassani catback is not recommended without a tailpipe expander with a range that reaches greater than 3"...hehe

also - getting the passenger side header into place is a Biatch!!!!!

but i had fun playin' ruit afterwards! lol

Yeah tell me about it... Would've also been easier to tighten those header bolts if someone wasn't trying to put quarters down my friggin pants.

Mine did the same thing when I installed my headers. You must not have moved the wires that run along the frame out of the way, so the headers are burning a hole through the harness causing a spark to jump from the harness to the headers, at least this was my problem. I took it to Ford first because I had no idea what was going on and they put the new harness in the same spot, 100 miles later I changed the harness myself (10 minutes) and used plenty of zip-ties to keep it out of the way.

all i know is when i had my hedders installed, i just saw practically the whole front end of my truck on the ground. the guy really wanted some room to work, and i dont blame him. I would never try to install hedders myself on these triton engines. I'd like to think of myself as a fairly good do-it-yourselfer when it comes to vehicels, i can do lifts, axle and engine swaps...but i just dont like doing hedders on an installed engine. props to you guys who do it!!
