Question Something may be wrong

Hope you all can help. A little background: 03 Lightning with the following mods: Cool air induction, Line Mod Valve (firm shift), larger trans pan/sump, 4 lbs pulley, Superchip flip chip (aggressive program/race program), boost bypass. Here’s my concern: At WOT, when shifting from 3rd to 4th, there is a very short (.2 sec.), but obvious screech from the engine. It sounds almost like a seize, but I’m no mechanic. I just want to make sure it’s okay before I really push the truck hard. It doesn’t happy every time, but enough to make me worried. Thanks for your help.

Sounds like the belt ... It has to slow down a lot if
your shift points are at 5450 or 5500

My accessory belt made the same noise at high rpm shifts. I replaced it with a Gatorback and the noise went away.

The Gatorback was a tighter fit than my stock belt.

Sure, like I said, I've been looking for somewhere to drive/race or just hang.

I guess the solution for the belt slip is the gatorback...thanks....

Any suggestions on performance shops around here (in CT)

Yeah, actually those guys at JDM did my mods (very happy with all of them) and they mentioned it to me. I was thinking about it, but i didn't know anyone going down there, so I put it on the back burner.....are you guys racing or just there to hang??

Which hooters??

We race always race, our last event was FFW in NH.
although we race, most of the time is spent in the staging lanes talking and checking out the trucks.
* Check out my gallery and you will see alot of trucks that are on this board..both Gen2s and Gen1s.
there are a few group shots there also.
Its a going to be a great weekend and if you have a lightning you dont want to miss them.

JDMs team works on my truck also, I have a custom exhaust that they built for me.
383Lightning is from Milford area and thats where the hooters is.
we also went to one up on the Berlin Turnpike, near Weatherfield.
He will be around here also, he may post. Well let us know if you can attend, remember you can go either day or follow us down.
I know there is also a JDM event that I have heard about for friday, but I cant get away for that this time around.
see ya

Does sound like it could be the belt.
I run a Gator with two differant size uppers and have never
had slippage, (even with the smallest upper)
Great belt and it works great, except no sub's
BTW, mine shifts @ 5700 - 6k

LightningCT,

Just a little FYI. Man, with the stock shortblock, I would STRONGLY reccomend that you stay out of it in O/D! In O/D, there is simply too much stress placed on the rods, due to the high numerical gear ratio in O/D. This creates an immense load on the motor(and more specifically, the rods), especially when you consider the fact that you're already pushing a 5,000 lb. BRICK through the wind at 120 plus mph.
Yes, these trucks are capable of topping 140mph, BUT it's not what they're the best at. The 500plus lb/ft of torque the motor makes is not going to offer much assistance at that speed, and any slightly modded LS1 is going to eat even a 400rwhp L's lunch at that speed. I'd venture to say that sustained top end runs on the highway is second only to detonation in reference to broken rods. Just my .02. It's your ride, I just wanted to take this opportunity to help a fellow L bro out.

Later,
Rob

so to fix that "potential" problem what should i do. I mean there's a plethora of sh## to add the these things and i don't mind taking my time to get all of it, but what's next then ....rods, pistons, rings, etc....anyone's suggestions would help.....and probably save my motor....thanks
