Can you guys help me with my track times?

Here are the mods I have: 6lb lower, Kooks headers, Magnaflow exhaust, filter kit, FTVB, electric fan, chip.

Im not new to drag racing but this was the first time at the strip with the L.

It was about 75 out last night. My best time on the F1's was 12.5 @ 109.9 w/ a 1.88 60'. Which I thought was ok? Then I switched to the slicks and only ran a 12.38 @ 109mph w/ a 1.76 60'.

I had the F1's at 25psi and the QTP's at 20psi cold.

And here are my 1/8 times:
F1's 8.0 @ 87mph
QTP's 7.9 @ 87mph

On the street tires I was launching off idle with a little bit of wheel spin. And on the QTP's I would just mash the gas which resulted in no wheel spin. So whats with the slow 60' on the slicks? Without having a stall you shouldnt power brake at the line should you? I was hoping to see some 11's last night. What will it take to get me there? Is my mph low?

Thanks

Sean

the MPH does seem a little low. I've seen L's go 12.2 with 4lbs and the same mods with slicks. not sure. how do you have your chip set? conservative? was there alot of humidity? did you let it cool down completely before running again? a 12.3 isn't bad, don't get my wrong. but I feel you should be getting 12.flat IMO.

does anything feel wrong with the truck at all? do you have the suspension worked with? (traction bars/adjustable shocks, etc?)

lots of factors man!

Im not sure on the humidity. And the chip was tuned to a 12.2 A/F ratio and 18 degrees of timing(dont know if that is conservative or not?) And as far as suspension I have the roush suspension with 2" drop shackles and the JLP traction bars. I keep wondering if the spark plugs could have anything to do with it. I never gapped them when I put them in because people said that they were very easy to break?

I always at least check the gap out of the box. I talked to a friend last night that had installed some Denso IT24s and they were at 0.025" gap which IMO is too 'close/tight'.

With a 6 lber, your gap should be around 0.030-0.032"--I think?

Your times are in line with your mods. You don't mention what part of the country your in but the elavation is also an issue.

When comparing your times to the board times there is a big discrepency from one are of the country to another. Other factors are weight reduction...which would have to be involved for a 12 flat run with your mods. Track conditions are also a big factor.

Something I always look at from one night to the next is what others are running compared to their best times. I usually find that everyone is either running slower than usual as a whole or faster as a whole.

She's running good and your gap needs to be as big as possible without getting blow out.
This is also a regional issue. If a person drives predominently in a higher humidity they will need smaller gaps. Drier climates allow you to get away with larger gaps.

I run a .038 Gap on IT 22's
Your air pressure in your QTP's may be a tad high. I run the Hoosier Slicks and run mine from 14-16 depending on track conditions. Maybe someone who runs the QTP's can chime in on that.

Well said Rocks.

the MPH and Times are not that bad.

I run my 28x14.5x16 QTPs at 16 lbs and when I had my stock coverter I left on it (around 1800) and my 60 fts w/ a 6# lower were very low 1.7s.
With the P.I. converter and 8# lower I brought that down to very low 1.6s and one 1.59 run.

I always thought that the higher the psi you can run without spinning the better? Higher psi equals less rolling resistance. And I wasnt spinning. With the stock stall should I be power braking at the line to a certain rpm, or just launch off idle? Thanks for the replies. I guess its time for some sort of power cooler.

Before I installed my higher stall torque converter I would power brake up to about 1200 RPM and then on the last yellow let off the brake while slapping the go peddle to the floor, it would give me better 60 ft times which translated into better quarter times.

Your right in your assumption on tiere pressure versus spin. The only issue I would mention here is that with the tire pressure you ran at, it is rare to not get some spin if giving it 100% throttle.

One of our local guys had an experience where he thought he wasn't getting spin but if you watched him run you could actually see his tires spinning at the 360 ft mark and he was not noticing it while loosing time at the 1/4 mile.

Like I said last night...your truck is running good and it is sounding like you may have some really good times after you get that 60 a bit lower. Your times are rocking as is .
