What's next?
Morning all,
I'm writing to get some suggestions on what to do next with my 01 Lightning.
Since the morning after I purchased it several weeks ago it has constantly had a rough idle and seems to cut out during both light and heavy acceleration.
The heavy acceleration problem shut down was due to boost dumping. I figured that much out due to you guys, but after 5 days at the dealership they still can't tell me why the rough idle.
I can't tell whether the problem is fuel or fire.
I'm leaning more toward fire like a POC or plugs but the plugs were changed by the dealer at the start of this diagnostic nightmare and they said that the POC's all test OK. Fuel filter, etc has been done as I was thinking that maybe it needed replacing at 25K,
No codes were ever found during all these diagnostic tests they say they ran, so in Ford Service talk that means "Nothings Wrong, thats the way its suppose to run.
I have been able to greatly reduce the missing at idle by
increasing my idle to about 700 RPM's. Presently it is idling at about 550 in park w/o the air on.
What should idle be under that condition?
I talked to one of the Engineers at SVT and described what was going on and he suggested trying changing the TPS in regards to the premature boost dump.
It's been raining here so I haven't been able to test it out to see if that helped with the premature dumping.
Streets are too slick and tires are too bald which brings up another subject,Tires.
I would sure like to know if anyone is running any type and size of performance All Season tire and if so what brand and size?
Are we stuck with the 295-45-18 size or can we use an alternate size ?
It seems that if I have to stay with factory size I've only got two choices and thats Goodyear or Nitto's. Am I wrong?
If not then which one is the best in your opinions?
Any suggestion on the rough idle and erratic missing would really be appreciated. I just don't know where else to turn since Ford can't seem to find anything wrong.
Thanks,
Mike

Just got my truck back from the shop for a rough idle ('99 35K) My RPM's drop below 500 and the occasional stall at a light. The dignosis was dirty IAC and dirty Injectors. Both clean and truck is now idlling back a solid 680 (where it used to be).
