torque convertor swap, who has done it themselves????

Should I attempt it myself and have someone do it. I don't have any experience with this kind of stuff, but i have a lift, tools and plenty of mechanical ability. I'm a mechanic by trade working on commercial lawn care machine, and have done all my mods and my truck , as well as others. Just not sure what's involved and if it's over my head, just worth someone else doing it.

It took me and another all day to pull it and all day for me to put back my tranny. Will never do it agian ,would rather pull the heads. Some folks will charge 250-400 to pull the tranny. My tranny puller has added a hundred dollars this time cause it took them 6 hrs. So mine is being pulled for 350 this time. Hope this helps.

yea, youll need plenty of looooong extentions and swivels. the worst bolt on mine was on the starter, but the reason why it was so hard was because of my long tubes. just disconnect the lines and the cable for the shifter and remove the drive shaft. then you can remove the crossmember. unbolt on the top of the rear some lines (dont remember which). unbolt the bellhousing bolts, this is where the extentions come in handy. oh yea, do it with a tranny jackso it doesnt fall and crush you. dont drop the old converter. its reaaaally heavy.

where i had it done they only did it for 200. its a pain

I dont think its that hard.. Unless you dont have a clue as to what your doing.. Ive done mine a few times.. (install, removal, take out broken trans, install new trans, help a buddy do his stall..) it takes me about 2hrs to have the trans out with the truck on jack stands and me crawling around underneath. And about that long to reinstall...

I removed & replaced my trans by myself. I must of taken me about 20 hours all told. One dealer here wanted $350.00 to do mine. I had to borrow a trans jack & used a lot of different tools. I would do it again I guess.

Any shop that takes 6 hours to pull a trans out of a lightning should be out of buissness. While dropping the trans on jackstand can be a little tricky on a lift it is cake 30- 45 minutes out 1 hr in.

I know a guy who can go wheels up to wheels down in just about an hour. But he's been doing 4 a day for about 20 years. (he's the guy who does the R&R for test vehicles) On average I'm told it's a few hours total.

Don I may have someone that would do it for cheap.. but you have to supply the trranny stand.. thats the only problem.... or you can take it to Cottman Transmission (they did my Monster Box swap) Ford outsources their trannys to them.. it will be about $350...
