PCV - Revisited (oil in intake)

I have decided to stop messing around with all the various methods of contolling the oil in the intake situation and completely get rid of the PVC system altogether.
I would like to leave as much of it there as possible so I can reconnect it easily when I have to go through DEQ testing.

So I have a question for those who have done it, such as EasterIsland.

1) On the passenger side.... Can I just put a Vacume cap on the PVC valve and plug the line where the hose plugs onto the PVC valve ? ..... and just leave all the rest of the stuff connected ? (I do have the breather cap at the oil fill location)

2) On the driver side..... I was just going to plug the PVC hose and install a breather on the valve cover.

You need your pcv's to ventilate your crankcase. The passenger side Ts in with your manifold. I personally, wouldnt cap anything off. I tried the breather on the drivers side and man did I vent some serious oil out of there and onto my exhaust. I thought I was on fire.

Promod,

Ok, so you say you vented some serious oil out your breather and onto your exhaust......... (glad you didn't catch on fire)
So in other words....it sounds like there is plenty of oil from that side that is capable of making it into your intake ?

Perhaps I will still install a breather on the driver side but use some 5/8 hose and mount the breather a little ways up and away, instead of right on the valve cover.....

You think that might help ?

Rob02lightning turned me on to some new style PCVs. No prblems since. What I did is I still vent my drivers side with the new style PCV and a breather on top. No more hoses go into my throttle boot except for the one on the passenger side. Both drivers side hoses were eliminated. On the passenger side ,I put the other PCV in the kit and capped off my oil breather which was starting to fill with oil too. If you were to cap off all your PCVs, you would eventually develope oil leaks elsewhere. valvecovers etc. Your crankcase needs to be ventilated. Ill try and find you the site where rob02lightning told me to get these new style PCVs. I also used 5/8 hose and mounted my breather high up on the drivers side...it didnt work. Remember these modmotors make lots of oil pressure and as soon as you floor it the oil goes to the back of your valvecovers where your breather will be. I have the baffled bullitman aluminum valvecovers hich are taller too and it still spew oil out of my 6inch tall hose and breather assembly....Pete

ok then,

How does EasterIsland get away with it exactly ? He has said many times that he does not run a PCV system at all.

Calling Easter....

Dirtchicken,
I know Easter has no EGR system, but I could have swore I have seen threads where he has said he removed the PCV system also.

Maybe it is time I Start a new thread with Easters name in the title so he is sure to read it.

Also.... Promod..... where you still running the stock pvc on the passenger side when you tried to run the breather setup on the driver side ? If so..... that might be why you were spewing oil out the driver side breather..... as the stock PCV valve never completely closes.....

Cool

The Swanson Kit really works.

I posted this thread with a pic back in July. My intake is still dry.

no PCV on passenger side when I tried it. My valvecovers dont have a provision for a PCV on that side. I also do not have a EGR system, I took mine all off. The kit I got is the Swanson kit mentioned above..
