Unhappy any high milage lightnings experiencing this??

Well i'm thinking this comes with high miles on some Ls.. I have 84,000 mildly abused miles on my 99 L.. Well i'm starting to hear a lot of different noises going on under the hood especially when it's hot outside. Theres a consistent ticking sound coming from near the IAC, a clicking/grinding sound coming from the upper pulley and a diesel sound somewhere around the S/C.. I've been noticing this earlier but now it seems to have gotten worse/louder.. It sounds worse when the truck is in drive. also when i'm sitting at a light or come to a stop I feel a slight miss and the truck shakes a little. Anyone have a clue? The last time I changed my plugs was the latter part of july. I"ve been to SC and to the track (6 passes) and daily driven since.. The truck pulls better on some days than others and lately its hard to tell b/c of the hot weather here. Can anyone give me some ideas on what may be causing the compilation of sounds? A buddy told me that it may be the probellers need re oiling in the S/C. Also he thinks a bearing inside the S/C snout has gone bad...

Thanks!

RC: Have you replaced the s/c'r oil? The idler pulleys may need cleaning/regreasing or replacing?

Mine has 55,900 miles with no noises.............so far .

noise

Hi Again: you have a 4# pulley don't you? I put a pulley on my 01 and then started hearing what sounds like the same noise you described it is the blower belt floping at hot idle with the ac on and in drive it makes the engine run at just the right RPM to get this vibration. That is why your old stock pulley was mounted in rubber welcom to the pulley club LOL

My truck has 106K on it make sure your fuel filter is change regularly and check your plugs. I started to here a little ticking sound just before I blew a plug.

Do a few easy things to see if it helps/stops the prob.

Like you and everyone are saying, check the idler pulleys,
many have noise related prob's with them. Lots of post on it,
simpy take them off, pop the cover off, clean and regrease.

As for a ticking near or around the IAC, try cleaning the IAC,
if not anythign else, believe me it's dirty if it's never been cleaned and or changed. Mine gave me trouble at 8K and caused idle prob's. It's 2 minute job, and mine was fixed immediatly

You mentioned a diesel sound somewhere around the S/C
Many of us experience cavation (I believe it's called) mine does it certain times and also sounds like a deisel, been doing it since I Modded it way back at the beginning, has to do with the RPM of your idle, RPM of the S/C, and air intake (I think?)

Take a breaker bar, go outside, pop your belt off, and spin the idler pulleys, S/C pulley etc... and see what you hear and find,
like some say, may be time for S/C oil change

GOOD LUCK
