ABS light keeps coming on..
I'm assumming this is the Anti lock braking system warning light..It only comes on periodically..I guess this is something only the dealer can fix...I know my braking has been horrible and I just put new rotors and pads on a couple of months ago...What does this ABS light mean?
Thanks
Thanks
Rayden's cloud,
I hope this helps in saving you some money. I had this problem many years ago with my F250LD. After doing some initial investigation, I discovered that the cause was the rear differential speed sensor. This ~$20.00 part would intermittantly fail and cause the anti-lock warning light to illuminate. The part is located on top of the differential and is easy to replace. If you are under warranty than Ford should fix it for free, if you are not they will charge you a diagnostic fee + part price + labor. I was out of warranty and I figured I would replace this inexpensive part first before having to pay the fee to the Ford dealer.
Good Luck

According to the Haynes manual:
"If the yellow ABS warning light on the cluster comes on and stays on, make sure the parking brake is released and there is no problem with the hydraulic system. Before taking the vehicle to the dealer service department check the following:
1)Make sure the brakes, calipers, and wheel cylinders are in good condition.
2)Check electrical connections at the control unit
3)Check all fuses
4)Follow the wiring harness to the speed sensors and brake light on/of (BOO) switch and make sure all connections are secure and wiring is not damaged."
Good Luck.

Yeah I had all 4 rotors and pads changed but this was near the beginning of august.. I am getting a littl vibration when I brake..Also I notice when I come to a complete slap it in park my RPM needle raises and comes back down.. Didn't do this until I started noticing the vibrating brakes/ABS light... Where is this bolt located to switch the part out?
Thanks guys for you helpful info!!

Rayden's cloud,
Once you have your vehicle properly secured with jack stands, and you can slide under it safely, the sensor is located on top of the differential more toward the drive shaft end. You will notice a wiring harness that attaches to it. You should first disconnect the harness for easy access to the single bolt. The bolt goes right through the rear sensor mounting flange into the differential housing. Unfortunately, I don't remember the size. The sensor is equiped with an o-ring seal so you may have to wiggle it to get it out of the mounting hole. The only difficulty I had was with the darned wiring harness attachment clips. If you PM me with your email account I will send you a document that outlines this procedure.
