Man; I feel out of place with my 170, but my temp guage always reads in the 160 range

That's strange. The temperature guage usually shows a higher temp. than what the thermostat is rated at. By about 10 degrees.... I believe.

Oregon, summer driven 160 degree thermostat. Runs at exactly 75 degrees C. (167F) on the freeway according to the in dash diagnostic in the odometer.
If you drill about 3 - 3/16 holes in the housing of the thermostat it will keep the temperature more constant once it is warmed up. For example..... it will run exactly 75 C on the freeway instead of fluxuating from 75 to 78 while the thermostat is opening and closing. The only drawback is a longer initial warm up time.

That's what I would think; but it is where it stays at when I am going down the road. Even with the AC on(I have an electric fan) But, I do notice that the TS seems to open up about 178~180 because just after that the temp drops back down when I am in traffic.

A 160 t-stat will operate in the 170s....a 170 t-stat will operate in the 180s...so on so forth.....my 160 usually stays around a 168 to 174 degree operating temp...

Follow the large black hose that comes from the top of the radiator and connects to the top of the motor. The neck that it connects to is where the thermostat is located. Hope this helps.

If a pic is needed, just ask.

Do a search for "thermostat". There are great diagrams and how to's. I did this back in the day when I went with a "160"
