GEN II styleside L???

My brother is trying to tell me that he's seen a "Lightning" at a "auto show" where it was a non-flareside (styleside). He also said it was a 96-98ish GEN II.

I keep telling him the GEN II(lightnings) are 98 and above, and are ONLY flareside.

Yes, the GEN I's are styleside and flareside.

Please let's clear this up.

He might have saw the lightingrod concept L that did all the auto shows for a few years. It had an L motor and was a styleside.
So he might not have been lying to ya.

From this web site here: http://members.aol.com/traumapir8/What.html

It states the GenII came out in 1999...

Gen 2s are 99 and up, the basic f-150 body style is from 97 and up. There are no strait sided Gen 2s.There are no flare side Gen1s by the way.

It could have been that show truck Vinnie mentioned, its maroon from what I remember...but it not an actual production truck by any means.

The first concept GEN II Lightning was a stylside, not a flareside. They changed it to flareside after the concept. This concept truck may be what he has seen.

I think there is a guy on one of the boards that actually swapped out his bed for a standard bed on his L. Dunno if he got into an accident or what.

IMO, just didn't look right, but to each his own.

If he was in Florida this might have been what he saw:

Maybe at the FFW in Gainesville this year.
