Question bed liner help for a newbie, please

My husband recently purchased a white 2003 and absolutely LOVES it! He came off leasing a SportTrac, went looking for a truck and fell in love with the Lightning. He got a great deal, too!

His birthday is coming up fast and I know he wants a fitted bed mat with the ford logo on it. Nobody local can get one in for me in time for his birthday, but I found someone online who has them. Trick is, I don't know whether the L is considered a flareside or a short bed. Can anyone help? If it's a short bed, I'm saved as I can order one here (http://www.truckspecialties.com/bed_mats_oem.htm), but if it's a flareside, I'm back to square one.

If it is a flareside, if you all know where I could order one for the L, I'd be eternally grateful. Thanks!!

That looks great, gadget! Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, he definitely does NOT want a rug. He actually uses the truck to ::gasp!:: HAUL stuff! I know, what a travesty, huh?

Sounds like it IS a flareside. Anybody know where I can get the liner/mat with the Ford logo on it to fit?

Any local ford dealer should be able to get you the Duraliner with the Ford logo on it....It is a very tough hard plastic liner, and fits very nicely...The Lightning is a Flareside Shortbed....Not Styleside, and not a longbed....

Or do a web search for Duraliner or Pendaliner...Both make very nice bed liners...

dumb question

I just called the Ford dealer and he thinks he's found it, but the Ford system has been down all day. Just out of curiosity, as I'm continuing to search online, if I ordered for a flareside would I be safe? Or do I definitely need to specify both flareside and shortbed?

Yes you would be safe....The Flareside is only made in a short bed...The short bed is 6 and a half feet long...There is no flareside long bed....

Sweet! Thanks again!

I think the dealer was about 99% sure it was right, but he couldn't get into Ford's system to verify it. Rather than order it and hope, he wants to be sure. That's cool with me.

I agree with ya man...Most of the parts guys at dealers are idiots....I called a local dealer today to get an IAC Valve for the truck, and the guy asked me what engine I had

bedrug...

I haul things in my Lightning everyday. The only way I'd ditch the bedrug is if I hauled a lot of gravel etc... (dirt) otherwise the rug has held up great!

Do you guys realize how many different parts and different Ford vehicles these parts counter guys are dealing with, plus you add on all the different years and it's beyond your realm? Many of these dealerships also handle multiple lines of cars also. Use some common sense. There are some very sharp parts guys and a lot of them know the part number before you even get through describing the part. The Lightning is a limited production vehicle, so I doubt that they deal with many parts for them on a regular basis. Sorry if I'm standing on the soapbox, but it just appears to often on this forum people are to quick to put others down.
