Question to Electric Fan owners
Question to Electric Fan owners
Hey all,
I'm looking to keep my 2000L relatively 'stock' and at this time I'm ruling out mods such as a chip, 4# pulley, nitrous, etc. I just don't have the desire to make my truck a member of the 12 second club...yet!
The next mod I'm looking to make is the E-fan with Cobra R water pump from JLP.
Are there any adverse effects this mod could have on the electrical system of my truck? Does this mod really improve gas mileage and bump horsepower up slightly?
Has anyone ever dyno'd their truck before and after e-fan installation? Or have track results before and after?
I want to keep my L relatively 'truckable' as I use it ocassionally for towing and hauling stuff. Thanks for your replies!!!

I have both on and I noticed the temp did go up alittle when I switched to the fan and pump.I went to a 160' thermo and noticed a nice drop on the dummy temp gauge, after the fan and pump install It seemed to go up to the old mark, just wonder if the pump doesn't move as much water.I have the fan set to a toggle switch,I only use the low setting which you can run on a 30 amp fuse, high setting needs 40 amp,low moves plenty of air.plus when you want to run someone shut it off.and its nice at the track to leave on between runs with the truck off.

if you want power dont bother with the fans, its a mod that most of us use when were looking for the absolute last bit. its like the single blade throttle body and a catback. its a very small peice of a puzzle.

I would skip the so-called "Cobra R" (just a Mustang) pump though. All it does is flow less water, freeing up a couple of HP (although several tests have actually shown a loss after installing the Mustang pump). It is actually less efficient than the stock 8-blade pump.

I don't disagree with anything easter says above, but it will be my second engine mod (JLP filter first). Here is why -- slightly more HP, slightly more MPG, but, most importantly, quicker warmups, better temp maintenance, and no more obnoxious fan noise. I like to start from the foundation and build from there.

Tim, your thoughts on the meziere electric water pump?

So it's really too close to call. BUT, I have no experience with either. Everything I know is from reading these boards, so I'm just bench racing.

Electric fan is nice because it gives you more room in front of the engine to change lower pullies. I have the flex-a-lite fan which is lower profile than most "tuner" fans and is capable of 5500 cfm. It has performed well for over 20K miles. The cobra waterpump is not needed for this fan because there is ample space between the fan and the stock water pump. I have a cobra pump and an underdrive pulley on it and it cools my engine just fine for the last 12K+miles.
I have a Cobra-R waterpump sitting on my work bench, and Tim says it blows! About to cry but easter says his works great with underdrive pulley... I also have a set of Ruslow underdrive pulleys sitting right next to the pump! I feel better. Thank you easter.
Tim (El Esqueleto),
No flame intended, thank you for always have great input!
