The reason you want 28's over 26's is that they have a taller sidewall. The taller side wall will let the sidewall wrinkle and allow the slick to bite much better when you launch the truck.
If you could get a 26" to hook off the line, yes it would help lower the gear ratio in the first 300 feet or so, but it might hurt you in the top end. There is allways a trade off.
I don't know if you remember the post when JDM tried putting 4:11 in skinheads truck. They thought it might help, but it actually hurt the 1/4 mile time.
Well; All I get to run is 1/8th mile tracks, and getting off the line is everything. I have to admit that I have not mastered launching with the slicks to get my 60ft times down yet, but they are well worth it. Same night within 20 mins I went from a 1.87 60ft/8.15 1/8th to a 2.08 60ft/8.35 1/8th by going from my ET streets to stock F1's @28 pounds. That was leaving from idle, and flooring it off the line(I had to back out with the F1's due to spinning). These times were in 90 degree heat and a lot of humidity. Even if I can get off the line my truck has a bad problem about smoking the tires on the 1-2 shifts
My Mods:
02 L, JL lift bars, #4, REM chip, modded air box, FT valve body, underdrive pullies, and a few other small things. Oh, and my ET streets
I just wish I had the stall converter you did, and I would be will into the 7's 1/8th.

If the track prep sucks nothing will help.
Edit
by the way I still have a set of Bogarts with 28x10-16 hoosier slicks for sale $750.00

Wow; that's a good price. I almost spent that much for the setup I have, and I don't have Bogarts.Something everyone should also remember about going to slicks; you will lose some weight. The stock wheels/tires are VERY heavy; going to any 16" with slicks will net you a nice weight savings, but Bogarts are super light.
about 20 runs
should have plenty of runs left, I am basically seeling the rims and giving the tires away for free. The rims were $360 each, they might need to be polished up a little but they are billet so the clean up very easy. Yes they are real light.
I run the same rims now, just in 15" size
