info on "built motor" Ford '03 block and crank part numbers & price changes?
Hi guys,
I was just checking on prices for a new block and crankshaft to start an engine buildup. I work at a Ford dealership and my cost on these two parts was only like $450 bucks at one time (about 6 months ago).
Well, I just checked the prices again, and now my cost is something closer to $1000 bucks. Still not bad for a block and crank, but the jump kinda surprised me nonetheless.
They list the old p/n block at the old price but show it as "discontinued"; and according to my VIN information, my '03 truck has the "NVH" block, I assume that this is the "stronger" block that some have spoken about for '03s.
I'm coming up with part numbers:
3L1Z-6010-AA for the block at a list price of $708.12
F75Z-6303-AC for the crank at $659.85
I also remember hearing some rumblings about some newer trucks coming from the factory with cast cranks. was this ever substantiated? I don't want to order a crank and end up with a weaker one than I have now.
thanks for any info.
later,
chris

It is thicker, but also heavier.
THICKER IS ALWAYS BETTER
actually JJ, I believe that NVH stands for: Noise, Vibration, Harshness
But close enough.
anyway, now I'm thinking of just pulling the motor and reusing my stock block and crank instead of buying new. I'm going to have to borrow heads and timing cover and other accessories anyway, why not just beef up my existing block. originally it sounded like a good idea just to pick up a new block and crank (why not for only $450 bucks!) but now that it's more than twice that, maybe I'll reconsider. Also, I have a beater bronco now so I don't need the truck as a daily driver.
cpeapea, yes the truck is for sale, but as you can see, i'm starting to rethink that idea.

p.s. any info on those cranks?
But close enough.

All I know is that the '01 motor in my truck (which was a replacement for the '00 motor with the spun bearing) had a cast crank in it. But it was not a short block, it was a complete L. motor with new intake, intercooler, blower, etc. I wouldn't mind having the stiffer '03 block, but the '01 block is stiffer than the '00 and I think since it is fully studded now stiffness should not be an issue.
where's the search police when you need 'em huh
thanks alphadoggy for the links, very interesting indeed.
