Tire bumping or thumping?
The dealer let me test drive a Lightning Saturday (scared my wife to death
) and it felt like a tire was bad out of balance or something. I even got out and looked at them before stepping on it after it warmed up, but all the tires and weights looked good. It got a little better, but was still there after 7 miles. Now I know these are low profile tires and it is a truck with a performance suspension, but my scab rides way better than this, and my wifes Focus ZTS which has almost no sidewalls (50's and about 205 I think) rides great, whcih really surprises me. Please tell me that all the Lightnings are not like this, because this was so bad I wouldn't buy one if they are (I've got a deal worked out with them when I sell my scab) but this one was not the color I wanted, it was just the easiest one for them to get out for a test drive. I thought maybe it was because the tires had been sitting for a while, but it really seemed to be just one wheel that I could not completely isolate. The dealer just guessed that a wheel was out of balance. Sorry about my usual long winded posting. What do y'all think?

I had a high speed (over 75mph) vibration, couldn't figure out for the life of my F1s. After replacing them all, and having them properly balanced, everything is smooth.
Get rid of those clamp on weights, and have them rebalance with the stick on BEHIND the rim. Can't stand those crimp on weights, plain UGLY.

Hmmm, I have the same vibration, except mine starts around 65mph. Clears up past about 80mph.
I had it in several weeks ago for a rubbing sound coming from the rear, and they were going to swap in a new rear end for the truck. They also noticed the rear axle bounced when they ran it up on the lift, so they replaced the universal joint. It still vibrates, though, so I'm thinking 1 or 2 of the rear tires are out of balance. I've felt unbalanced tires before, an that's exactly what mine feels like.
I'm taking mine in next week for the new rear end and going to have them balance all 4 tires (with stick on weights, not the stupid clamp weights that go on the outside lip).

albow:
1. Check your tire pressure "dead cold"...make sure it's
32 psi....use a high quality analog type pressure gauge.
2. If a vehicle has sat for a LONG time in one spot, you
can get hard spots in the rubber...therefore "thumping".
If the above 2 are ok then there is a tire quality issue.
Good luck.

Well, let me clear things up a little. The truck only had 5.7 miles on it and I brought it back with 12 something. The bump was noticeable immediately on leaving the dealership and I only ran0-40 mph for 1.5 miles before hitting the interstate and legging it out. It got a little better before I got back (didn't notice it at 100 mph but then i wasn't paying attention to that at that point!). It looks like from what y'all are saying that this is an anomaly, which is what I wanted to here. Unfortunately, my potential buyer didn't contact me today, so I'm still on hold till I can get payoff for my scab. Wish me luck (it's a good truck and a good deal).
