problems

well. after staying at 140 or so for awhile, the truck started acting like it was running out of gas.I didn't hear anything,no warning lights came on. I don't have a chip.So i pulled off at a weigh station and checked it out. it looked like my head gasket was leaking more than normal(it's not gushing or anything). Just bigger droplets and seems more frequet.

Problem 1.Going up hills now is a pain. It struggles and kinda coughs. Going down hills, it won't compression brake. It has this weird sputter / pop/quiet backfire type noise. I notice it more at cruise speeds and sometimes its louder than usual.Kindalike: braaaaa puhraaaa. No power at all either.

Problem 2. I think this may be a transmission problem. Not sure. When I'm in 4th gear and i tip into it about half throttle to roll on accelration the whole truck shakes and kinda goes pah pah pah pah in that rythum. Can't really describe the noise. I don't think it's the motor. and when i put the pedal to it to shift from 4th to third it goes pah pah pah shift and then it doesn't do it anymore. i think i feel it slighty so often in other gears.

then i have the problem getting this fixed under warrenty.

i would appreciate any advice. thanx

I would get the motor problem figured out before I worried about the tranny. You may think your have a trans problem when it really is the motor giving the symptoms. You are putting a lot more load on the motor in OD with the converter locked up. Therefore you may experience your motor problem the most during that time. -Mat-

thanx ...good idea. oh yeah, i recently pulled a heavy *** trailer with it too. caused more of the sputter. also without the trailor it seems the truck doesn't like going over 60mph

Headgasket. You out there floggin' it in this record heat and you already had a leak, what did you expect? Oh, I know, the reflash was going to adapt.

Sorry, I couldn't resist. Hopefully the fix won't be too painful.

Do you see coolant in the valley of the motor or black stuff in the radiator expansion tank? Mine wouldn't leak until it was under boost.
I just replaced my head gaskets Friday and the new ford gaskets are really nice, except for the $135 price tag.
