Question Fuel system help, please

The motor is done (wow, that steel crank is sure nice) and the KB is about to go on. I have Sal's 255 lph pumps, Weldon regulator, Works rails, and Sieman's 55 lb. injectors. But, my mechanic says that the fuel supply from the gas tank to the rails is inadequate. He thought we could tap the tank and run bigger hoses, but upon pulling the tank and looking at it he doesn't think this is possible. He said that he heard that there was a replacement tank for the Lightning with bigger outlet that was already plumbed. Anyone hear of this? How are you guys with the big motors plumbing your fuel systems so you don't run into starvation issues like Steve and Bill?

Tell your mechanic to contact one of the tunners. You have enough fuel system with the 255's and the 55 lb injectors. The fuel rail is also a plus.

I had a long talk with Jim at JDM on that very subject. My stock fuel system was cutting out at 467 hp to the rear wheels with 16 lb of boost.

It might be adequate (barely) for now, but I know darned well that it won't be when the 201 goes on, and I don't want to have to pull it out and re-plumb it then.

George,

You'll be fine with the stock lines. Steve replaced his because he THOUGHT that was the problem. Turned out to be something else. 255's and bigger injectors should be A-OK for you. You are going to be hard pressed to run a lot of boost on our crappy gas any way.

Suavy,

I thought you were running over 20psi?

My A/F's are nice and fat (high 11''s) at 466rwhp with a completely stock fuel system.

Got to make a trip to Santa Paula and pick up some Toluene. Plan on running a 10% mixture which will give me 93.3 octane.

Your right I am getting set up to run 27 lbs. of boost we put the big pulley on and the engine and it was actualy sutting down due to lack of fuel. We made 24 lbs. of boost at 3K rpms. We decided to stop until I get my fuel system up graded. The Magnum
Power's blower just kept climing on the graph. We are hoping for some great numbers but I have to get the $$$ together to buy a bigger fuel system.

Until then we set up my everyday driving set up for 16 lbs of boost.

Cutting out at 460?

What do you mean by cutting out?

I should be 450+ hp. Do I need to upgrade my fuel system?

I find it hard to believe that your factory fuel system was cutting out a 467rwhp unless something else was wrong. I know several L owners who are running 525+ rwhp on the factory fuel systems with Zero problems.

Any idea of what kind of time frame we are looking at, Scott?

Suavy are you saying you ran 24# of boost @3000rpm with a roots blower? Sorry but that did not happen with that Magnaflow. You must have some big azz BSD roots blower on there. Are you setting us up?

Dale: ding pies are done!

I saw a post where the Cobra guys are using Focus Pumps. I dont know if they would work with our pick-up but the are rated at 300lph. The pumps are only $80 each and this eliminated the need for the Boost a pump.

Pumps are not the problem. The problem is the tiny hoses that the fuel has to flow through. You can increase the pressure as much as you want, but the volume of fuel is not going to increase. Steve is using 1/2" braided steel lines, and I got to figure out how to get something like that on my truck, yesterday.
