So here is my plan for the Lightning - it is bone stock now, and I am going to add a cold air kit (probably PSP FASTair) and a 2# lower pulley (again, probably PSP). I can do all the work myself, and since I don't need a chip for a 2# pulley, no chip=no warranty issues. I have a couple questions though; how feasible is it to remove the 2# pulley and put the stock one (with cage) back on when it's time to take it to the dealer? And will the dealer be able to tell that there was an aftermarket pulley on there? Also, will this be a noticeable power difference, even without a chip? And is this a safe mod to do without a chip? Has anyone run this combo with any success? This is all for my 2002 street (and the occasional drag track) driven Lightning. I am just looking to add a little something extra to the power, but I am really scared to get a chip due that whole warranty issue. Thanks guys. And should I be getting a breather cap? I keep hearing about it, but do I need it or not? Thanks again.

You can easily run all of that without a chip - and yes, you will feel a difference - actually quite a bit.
Putting back on the lower stock pulley isnt a bad job, and the dealer probably wouldn't even give it a second look on normal warranty work.

Ya what Max Said
But if your only going for 2lbs why not just do the upper and really make it simple ?
I started with a filter a 2lbs pulley, YOU'LL LOVE THE DIFFERANCE.
Now I run 6lbs + Nitrous,
You won't be far behind

I was under the impression that the lower pulley was cheaper/better/easier to install and remove. That's why I was planning on doing it that way; is there an advantage to doing the upper pulley instead?

Disadvantages of chaning your upper:
(*) $100 just for the puller (you can rent from an auto parts store for less, I think)
(*) Possibly bending the input shaft on the Eaton
(*) Having to re-press on the original pulley if warranty work is needed
(*) More belt slippage, due to a smaller contact patch due to a smaller diameter
I know others will have advantages, but there's nothing I can think of

EDIT: OH, and not to plug my own Classified, but I've got a 3# for sale that'll run you less than a new 2#...and you can pretty much run the 3# w/o chip =)
I would just run a 4lber with no chip. That HAS a noticable difference. The 2lb doesnt really .Although the 2lbs is good for 2 tenths consistant and 1.5mph in the quarter.
the 4lb is a better choice and MANY people have run them with NO problem.

Max - what do you mean "pretty much" run the 3# pulley without problems? If it's safe to run without a chip, I'm interested. Email me! Do the install tools come with it?
