Raced for my first Buck...lost my first Buck...

My friend and I went out looken for trouble. We found some alright. A guy in a Fox body mustang 5.0 with a cam on slicks asked if I wanted to race. I thought to my self, no way in hell he's stock... If he is he wasted $300 on slicks. I checked under the hood and didnt see a supercharger, so I was like why not. At most he's spraying. I figured my truck on a good day vs him even with a 75 shot, would be a fair race. So it was only for $20. My buddy put up $10 and I put up $10. Like I said he was on a slick and he wouldnt let me put on mine. They were kinda confused I drive around with slicks and a jack in the back of my truck. (one of the perks in having a truck) But he hears I have a chip and pulley so he says no slicks, we already agreed to the race...
So i said thats cool. I figured either he'd blow me away (spraying a huge amount cause the cam and motor work he had) Oh and he had a 2300 stall! Or I'd blow him away. Nothing in the middle. If he was "stock" like he claimed it wouldnt be as good of a race as people thought. So we race, I do a burn out, he does a water burn out, and we stage, I take off, get him outa the whole (spinning) and then he took off like a bat out of hell. (he also had a 4:11 gear) So after the 60 foot mark, the race was over. He had me shortly after by more than a car. I went up to 80 I think and shut er down. He was beating me by more than a few cars.... So we turn around and go back to where we are meeting and my buddy says "that was really fair." Because I questioned the guys car the whole time, and one of his friends kept saying all they were looking for was a fair race...
So my friend says wow if mustangs are that fast stock, im getting one of those. So I pulled out the $20 and gave it to him. Lesson learned. ya wanna play ya gotta pay.
Overall fun night. Another guy in an L was out there with a buddy of his in a supercharged HD. I didnt recognize it both the trucks pulleys were stock and all the L had in it was a drop in K&N there were a few trans ams, SS's, and some more mustangs. Like I said we still had a good time. It just cost us $20 and we were hussled.
Thanks, Shane

Sounds to me like you may have been had buddy, we have those engines over here and they only make around 215 hp, but you can put together a fairly stealthy piece( there are some very good cast iron heads etc.) that make good power, not to mention all the suspension pieces you can buy for those mustangs. Next time round I suspect your going to be a little more cautious, but fortunately your only out of pocket $20. Could have been a lot worse couldn't it.
Take care
Trevor

Consider it a lesson learned. I can only wish some of my lessons only cost me $20. As was mentioned above those small blocks can really produce the power. It kinda sounds like he eased it out of the hole, since you beat him with his slicks and stall convertor. At a track with gears/slicks a Stang should pull a 1.4/1.5 60'.
But as you said, you had fun. So thats all that really matters. No one got hurt and no tickets were issued.
You should have asked him to go for it again from a roll, like 25/30 mph.......Then you could have really seen what kinda power that Stang was pulling, for free ofcourse

First off, if I woulda rolled up to a guy with slicks already on his car, I woulda said I wanna race and I AM runnin my slicks. If he balked and said no slicks, I woulda asked him if he was scared or just afraid his mudstain couldnt hang. Its all good to have hindsight, and like it was said, 20 dollar lesson learned. BTW, I like the 2-lane blacktop thing about keeping your slicks and a jack with you

There's always gonna be someone faster than you,
it'll always be that way.

But the good part is,
loosing makes you buy more mod's

yeah, like you guys all said. It could have been a lot worse. We could have raced for $100, we could have gotten tickets, something could have happened to my truck... SO like we agreed on b4 the night cost me $20 and I learned a few things.
If someone comes in on slicks and says I can't put mine on, they are just testing you... Like you all said, my new rule, is no more street racing UNLESS I HAVE MY SLICKS! end of story.
And looking back on it, even if he didn't spray a huge amount, (he also had gt40 heads) cam, slick, stall, gear, and suspension work like I overhear he had. That's a quick car.

As for that robo, i'm going to have to try to hold off on getting more mods. I'm still thinking about that cobra, but like I said, im not getting rid of the L to get it. So the only way I can have both is if I stop putting money into the L and put it towards a healthy down payment on the Snake.

Thanks, Shane

Shane,
Next time you have $20 burning a hole in your pocket you could put it towards the entry fee at your local drag strip where you don't need to worry about traffic tickets etc; I gotta go,I'm starting to sound like my Dad

two things i wana know,

one: did you still keep the slicks and jack in the bed, because i think thats a significant amount of weight in the bed...

two: won't slicks on street not hook up as well since street isn't smooth;gravel holes ect..?

great news, I found the kid again tonight.

Yeah the same buddy of mine and I went back out looking for more trouble. (different location) I know we gota cut that out pretty soon. But we were down $20 so we had to go win it back. Win it back we did...
We met at this Mcdonalds about a half hour away and there were like 50 cars there, if not more. A lot of trans am's, camaro's an 03 cobra like 4 L's (red JUST LIKE MINE) and some nice older cars. And then guess who I see? The guy who killed me the night b4 in the mustang on slicks. He pulls up then I make my way over to him, and he says HE wants to race again... I was like yeah so do I. So we agree to do it again, slicks, vs slicks. He had et streets, I had et streets. So he says fine, I (him in the mustang) get the hit. (i dont think that the hit does him any good)
So I put my slicks on, air them up to around 19psi or so, get a thing of water for like $1.50 so i can do my water burnout and we go. I do a burnout, and I back into my patch. (that a good meathod? they did the staging) He did a mean burn out, backed into his, we stage, and take off. I kill him out of the whole, (how is that? he has stall, 4:10 gear and slicks...) I get him in 2nd (he is pulling a little, but not catching up) and I kill him in 3rd. End of race I get him by more than a car!
He pays up and we get out $20 back and he says damn that's a fast truck. And now he wants a ride in it. I said I gota get going but we will keep in touch. So I owe him a ride in the truck.
Overall he was a nicer guy than I thought. Last night I guess we got off to a bad start. Tonight it was nice to meet again and great to get him like I thouht I would in a race. he finally came out and told me he goes like 12.90 on spray.
thanks, Shane

thanks. Also, on the way home on the highway on the way home we did a 50mph pull. And we roll from 40 to 50 and he hit it and I hit it, and he took off by just a little and I cought up to him once my truck shifted, but from 60-120 I was like less than a half a car in front of him. And we didnt budge. Why is that? During all the races, I'd get him out of the hole, and he'd try to catch up in 2nd and 3rd. On the highway on a roll at 50 mph it was dead even.
thanks, Shane
