Question What the Helll did they do to my truck?

What the Helll did they do to my truck?

I am very worried about my truck, mostly because I don’t think that the people who are working on it have any idea what they are doing.

Last Monday I dropped off my truck at my dealer to have my door crack fixed. Since it was going to be at the dealer I figured I’d have them take a look at few small problems I was having with the truck, one of them being that my instrument lights would not come back on once the truck was turned off and the other being a ticking sound at start up. An example of the dash light problem is this, if I was driving with my lights on and stopped for gas or something and turned the truck off when I turned the lights on again the dash lights on would not come on for at least fifteen minutes if at all. Anyway, I dropped the truck off and was told it would be done by the next day. Well it was Wednesday when it finally came back from the body shop and that is when the mechanics started working on my electrical problem. They replaced the switch but that did not fix the problem so they decided to take the whole dash out and replace the wiring harness, I think that is what it was. I finally got a call this afternoon from the dealer letting me know that my truck was done. So I head out at the end of the day and half way there they call again and say it won’t be ready after all because they can’t get my computer to reboot, whatever the helll that means? The service guy said they were on the phone with ford trying to figure it out.

I am freaking out cause I can just imagine what they are doing to my truck, I just picture some fat dirty bastard f’ing up my interior trying to tear the dash out again. I never made it to the dealer because there was a huge accident on 93N today and it wasn’t worth trying to get there just to see these morons in person, I probably would have lost my temper and made things worse.

Does anyone have any idea what they could have done to F my truck up? How the helll can you go from dash lights not working right to not being able to start the truck? What the helll are these guys doing?

I’m sick right now, I hope they will be able to figure it out. I apologize if I didn’t use the correct terminology when describing the problem or relaying what the dealer told me.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Peter

Electrical problems can be very hard to diagnose and often times take a long time to fix. Rather than call the mechanic names and accuse them of doing something wrong, be patient and give them the opportunity to get it fixed. Maybe I take offense to these kind of posts because my dad was a Ford line mechanic for over 25 years before he opened his own shop. He wasn't fat or lazy and took pride in the work he did. There are many competent and excelent mechanics out there, but this board gives them very little respect. I would go to the dealership and calmly discuss the situation so that you have an actual understading as to what they are doing. You get respect when you give respect.

Take a deep breath and calm down, Peter. No use getting your knickers in a knot until you find out whether you really have a problem. Sounds like they are really trying to solve the problem. Let's see how it turns out before you push the panic button.

Getting yourself stressed out is not going to do anything but increase Maalox stock. If they don't break or scratch anything in the process, the truck should come out fine. The electrical connectors are all simple plugs.

Yea you guys are right. I think I just needed some sleep to calm down.....I was a little pissed, frustrated and a little drunk when I wrote this thread so I apologize if I offended anyone. After driving an escort all week I’m a little frazzled. Its hard to trust people with something that I am very attached to.

I'll let you know how everything turns out.

Thanks

Hey, no problem. We all go through our moments and I know it can be frustrating when something you enjoy is being worked on. Hopefully things will work out and your truck will be as good as new when you get it back. I would definitely go down to the dealership though and have a discussion with them just so you know what is going on and when you might expect your truck back. Good luck and keep us posted.

Well I finally got the truck back today and everything is perfect. The door crack is fixed and looks sweet and my light problem is also fixed. Big thumbs up to Ford!

I have a 6 year 75k mile premium warrantee, no power train mods for me! This thing is already plenty fast enough to get me arrested.

Don's Bolt,

I don't know anything about it, can you give me some details as far as where it is and what is involved? I am supposed to help a friend move in on the 16th but I'm pretty sure I'm free on the 17th. If it's not too far I would love to go.

Thanks,

Peter

Thumbs up

http://www.funfordevents.com/2003/

It is a series of races, and on the weekend of August 16th it will be At New England Dragway. It will be a good oppertunity to meet a bunch of New England Lightning owners as well as a few other guys who will be traveling from out of town. Also Jim and the Crew from JDM who sponsers the truck class will be there.

Even if you don't race it will be great to meet you, and for you to see some awesome racing.

Some of the visiting trucks that will be attending
Vinnie and his awesome flamed Lightning
Blackjack
Brian K
Paul Gamino

and most of the New England Crew.

thats exactly why I hate leaving my truck anywhere with anyone, I always picture the worst things happening to it. Usually when the service guys do the write up and they do more talking about "how cool my truck looks, and how fast it is" I take it else where... I actually had a guy tell me they had never seen one up close...that was at a Ford service center of all places. scary...
