I didn't have the weight ditribution hitch. I believe the 03's have a higher tow capacity due to the stiffer springs. The main thing with towing is being able to stop the load you are towing. The L comes with f250 breaks which are rated for higher loads than a f150. The L can probably tow a lot more than 7500 but the frame will rest on the axle and you might have trouble controling the load and stopping. Just my .02

kschaper, my trailer has brakes, and it sure is nice to know that the L has better brakes than my 150, but dangit, I wish I would have known they were upping the tow rating on the L before I bought my current 150! It's only 13 mo. old and I would lose too much trying to sell it right now. It's only rated at 7300# if I remember correctly due to the 3.55 ls rear end, but that ls has already come in handy pulling out of a couple of muddy campgrounds just barely spinning the tires. Also, I'd hate to lose that xcab, but for a L I might could stand it. Does the L have ls, posi-trac or something similar?

I ended up towing my buddies cuda from Quantico down here to Pensacola with no problems whatsoever. I did install helper springs that bolt on for the trip and took them back off when I got home. I was skeptical at first, but now I know I'll have no problems towing the cobra.

I towed my 24-foot enclosed race car trailer with my 2003 and my 2001 SVT lightnings. Saw no difference in payload between the two.

The trailer weighs 4100-empty and I had my Outlaw car in it and went to Fun Ford In Texas all the Way from Phoenix. Averaged 12-mpg and was driving 75-85-mph all the time.

Car, trailer, tools, weights in at 8,000 lbs! The rear end sagged but the L showed no sign of giving up.

My Harley Davidson Supercrew..I towed a 2003 Chevrolet C2500 series Crew cab Short bed 4x4 on an 18-foot open steel decked trailer, (9000-lbs) total weight from Phoenix to Albuquerque on I-40 and it did just fine, this witha works 140. I averaged 13-mpg, and set the cruise mostly at 80-mph!
Rear hitch was almost dragging the ground but the good old ford came through!

I am towing my 99 L with my 03 L tomorrow about 500 miles to LA. I have this trailer Kwickload Trailer . Has electric brakes and load leveler, and I put air lift bags just in case. I let you know how it goes. Weight would be about 6500 lbs.

**** Ill race you down the Grapevine.

Steve

Truck went right up Grapevine (long steep incline thru mtns just north of LA) with no problem in 3rd. 103 outside. Came down in 3rd at about 60 mph. I don't think I touched the brakes but twice on the decline. I was surprised it it hauled as well as it did. Mostly went 60-65 but had it higher to pass a few times. 500 miles takes a while at lower speeds but not bad at all.

03 pulling 99 on 1900 lb trailer.
