Buzz.......I know you won't make more horsepower but this is why I made the statement.........

It seems people are maxing out the 55# high impedence injectors and the 90mm MAF. Since the 55's are the highest high impedence injectors available and the 90mm MAF is the largest one available it just seemed like it would be the logical next step. Hell you could run huge injectors and eliminate the MAF.

I know there are a few larger MAF's being made now, but the results remain to be seen.

I have tuned vehicles with FAST, so let me give my thoughts on it.

First of all, FAST is a kick *** system. I enjoyed tuning the few vehicles I've done with it. From a tuning standpoint, it's top notch.

Now for the bad stuff. In order to run FAST, you need to also purchase a stand alone transmission programmer. Not really a big deal, but just adds onto the already high expense of the FAST system. Also, you lose all the PCM interfaced features. You'll have no speedo, no tach, no ABS, and other stuff. There may be a way to make it work, I'm not 100% sure because I've never tried to install one on a Gen 2. Oh, and you also need some kind of add on ignition system, since the PCM drives the factory coils, so add that to the price. You also lose all your OBD-II and all your emissions, so forget about the truck being smog legal.

The other downside is people having tuning control. I don't mean to insult anyone's intelligence, but 99% of the people here on this forum wouldn't have a clue what most of the stuff does. There is way more to tuning than timing and air/fuel. Going to a FAST system means you have to tune every part of the truck, FROM SCRATCH. That means you'll probably have to bring it to a professional tuner.

As for the stock system, you'd be surprised what it can really handle. When you make a certain power level, naturally your fuel system needs to be able to handle it. So that goes for both the EEC and FAST systems. There are ways to get around not enough injector, ways that are much cheaper than making the switch to FAST. And as for the MAF, it can also be worked around by a good tuner. Bring me any truck, no matter what the HP level it makes, and as long as the supporting hardware is up to par, I can tune it. Got a truck making 30 psi with an 80mm MAF? Bring it to me and I can tune it. You'd be surprised what the EEC can really do when a knowledgeable person can tune it in person. Mail order is more difficult for obvious reasons, but you aren't going to get a mail order FAST tune either .

TCI makes a tranny controller that would probably work, its about a $1000 bucks. Its what alot of the LT1 F-body guys use as well as there stock PCM for gauges.

Its a great system if you have a serious Street/Race vehicle and you demand the ability to tune for everything. Mine was around $2000 bucks with the Buick Harness (Turbo Trans-Am) so that it plugs into the factory under hood harness and it does away with the MAF restriction. I agree with what was said above, no offense to anyone on here but some of the stuff I read on here shows that the majority of people have no idea what "tuning" means.

If your into that kind of thing FAST rocks. The ability to make adjustments while you drive for anything is cool as hell I can't wait to get mine installed and running on my TTA once the motor is done.

I tried something similar to FAST, called the SMT-6, the biggest f*&^%#$ s#$$ Ive ever seen...after countless hours learning it and countless hours on phone with dealers who were allways too busy to help you, calling long distance mind you... and 1 night spent stuck on side of highway 60 miles from home at 2 am with a dieing cell phone,...I came to the conclusion that it could only be programmed by NASA engineers...so now I run Mafterburner, which is so easy to tune that Elmer Fudd could do it....and it accomadates all mods..you can even change your injector sizes in the software......
