Thumbs up Card in spoke sound from engine? *UPDATE!*

Original post...

I need to say that my dealer tech is the MAN

I brought the truck to the dealer last night. Pulled my chip, an dpopped the black cover back on the ECU... Didn't take off any other mods, cuz I was like, if they're gonna deny my warranty, they're gonna do it no matter HOW many I pull off. So I get to the dealership service, give the 'lo down on all the noises and the engine sound, and the service manager asked "You want "Bob" to work on your truck tonight?". Heh, they know me too well They gave me a loaner Taurus for the warranty work (replacing entire back window - the upper seal on the slider fell out, wouldn't glue back in...)

So, "Bob" calls me a couple hours after dropping it off. He's got some "news"...

Tech: "You know that big aluminum pulley you got on there? Well, 2 of the 3 bolts were loose, and it was wobbling, causing the sound... And one of the bolts had broken off and unfortunately I don't have one to replace it. It's a special bolt...etc, etc... and if I had it, I could get it fixed up for ya".
Me: "I got one laying around!"
Tech: "Awesome, can you bring it down here tonight, and I'll get it all fixed up for ya?... I'll chalk the hours up for warranty work on an idler pulley or something..."
Me: "You're the man! I'll be down in 20 mins with the bolt!"

So, I head out to the local supermarket, grab a case of Heineken, put it in a paper bag and drop down to the dealership.

Me: "Hey 'Bob' you left this in my truck the last time I was out here" (handing him the bag...)
Tech: "Thanks! I appreciate you bringing that down!"
Me: "No prob... and here's that 'other thing'" (handing him the bolt)

A little history on the pulley: It's a 6# that was an upgrade to my 3#. When I pulled the 3#, I noticed that a bolt was "missing". When trying to put on the new 6#, found that there was a broken bolt in the hole...So, I just clamped down the other 2 bolts, and figured I'd get to it, as soon as I picked up an easy-out. Heck, the 3# was doing just fine with 2 bolts, so why not the 6#? ...

Who says all dealerships want to F you in the bum over warranty work??

All names have been changed to protect the innocent!

Sounds cool... You might want to change your location with your nick cause I'm sure big brother is frothing at the mouth over this post and will leave no stone unturned trying to nail your dealership....Remember stealthness sometimes is good..

It's purely platonic, I swear!

Everytime I stop by there, he's asking, "How's the race truck doing?!"

Took care of your tech.. GOOD for you!

Alot of guys/gals don't have enough sense to slip their tech a few bucks for a job well done, in instances like yours, or just giving back your ride to you in great shape..... Glad you saw it fit to take care of Bob, your tech. As for myself I found out many years ago you get paid back big time IF you take care of your auto tech, or other service type provider. The patron that has the reputation of of being fair in praise and criticism when needed and in giving a little extra thanks always seems to get that added little special service to include more coverage under warranty.
By the way, a short letter to your Service Manager praising "his" tech and "his" Service Department can be the GOOD foundation for future visits when the Service Manager has to make a decision for ya or agin ya.. Sure call it brown nosen, swoozen, kissing up or whatever but geez....... 8-)

nice

good to hear. Only down side......and i'm not ******* on you, so don't take this personal.......but this right here is one of the reason why ford is giving us such a hard time on warranty work, and the fact that you post something like this is just written proof for them.

Glad your truck is fixed though!!!

i'll have to remember that dealer for warranty work. I'd never buy from them though, their sales tactics are lower than average!

Yea, I do know that I am milking the system...

I was fully ready, and willing, to hear REALLY bad news about the truck - like piston slap, or worse, and have to buy a new (maybe built) block... but all in all, I could have fixed everything my guy over at the dealership did, just would have taken a LOT longer to find the causes...

I could be a real sneak and buy a second ECU - but I'd have WAY too much guilt. I bought the mods knowing FULL WELL that I could be heading down a path of destruction... (flame suit on)

I usually tip the guy working on my truck. Nothing big, just a 5-10 bucks for taking care of me.
