Thumbs up Card in spoke sound from engine?? *FIXED!*

Well, was going to take it to the dealer, but the first appointment is NEXT WEEK ...

I just changed the plugs Sunday from factory over to BR7EF's... All gapped at .038". I hand tightened all of them, and when installing them, none felt like they were cross-threading (heard the tell-tale sqeak-squeak as I turned them in).

Ran the truck pretty hard the past couple days, with no irregualr sounds - truck felt great. Got home, and didn't notice anything wrong (truck still idles perfect, revs up fine), but the windows WERE closed...

Started the truck this morning, and heard what sounded like a kid on a bicycle with a card in his spokes ... Opened the hood, and definitely louder... seems to be coming form the passenger side bank of cylinders, but almost sounded like it was something caught in the factory fan, but not... pull the throttle, the clapping sounds increases with revs. VERY bizarre sound, but really doesnt sound like piston slap (no deisel-like sound).

Any ideas?!?! I plan on heading home today to re-check ALL the plugs (yay, another 2 hours of work). Any other things to look for while in there???

Hell, I'm afraid of what the dealer may find, and I'm thinking of pulling ALL mods before dropping it off, especially if it comes down to them saying it's something major.

TIA - Jeff.

one of my favorite tools: mechanic's stethoscope. Should help you locate it but BE VERY CAREFUL if you do it. Those radiator fans like to clip fingers and the like, and by clip i mean remove, and yeah itll hurt.

My guess is you probably arent far off with the radiator fan tho. Check it very throughly to see if you have any leaves or and protrustions that are tapping against it, or turn the fan by hand and see if its hitting something (i like to pull the battery if i ever get near the fan, safty first you know). Since its following your plugs o soon tho, it could well be that, but its just really hard to tell without hearing it yourself. Good luck.

I was almost hesitant to post, cuz it's true - anyone would want to hear it... maybe when I get home I'll rip a .wav of it and post a link to the soundfile... It's driving me nuts that I can't think of what it could be... I did look at the radiator fan, and it "looked" clear from the time I spent this morning looking in there...

...and if it was a popped plug, I'm sure the truck would idle and rev quite noticeably bad?

I dont think it will idle bad, from what I have read its the sound it makes B4 it actually "pops" ..then is when you might feel a difference

Anyway you bent a blade on the fan ? A blown or loose plug is very easy to diagnose, put you hand near all the coilpacks and feel for air. You know when a plug is leaking.
