Talking KB installed this past weekend

Fellow L owners.......................

Had the big KB install this weekend over at REM. The KB, 6lb lower, 2lb upper, Diablo flip, fuel gauge, boost gauge, pod, high volume fuel pumps, oil separator.

Paul insisted on a "very" conservative tune considering my new stock L only had 500 miles on her. Now I understand and fully agree with his decision.

I will keep dyno numbers out of the equation at this point until I drop 2500 miles on her and Paul re tunes the chip and we get back on the dyno, but I can divulge this - she absolutely screams, won't hold the road in second and never mind first - I have finally tasted the speed all of you have been telling me about - and I am sold.

There was one slight problem, my stock engine held up, the blower didn't, that's right she seized after the third "to the floor" at 17lbs of boost. Now, KB folks have been great and full of apologies, but my new project is taking her off and getting a new one.

All that matters is for the first two times I put in to the floor it was heart thumping, asphault kicking fun. What an awesome truck we have! No complaints or sob stories here.

And for the record Tim, Paul and Keith - fantastic group of professionals at REM, I would recommend them ten times over!

Glad the additional power meets your satisfaction and I'm sorry to here about the blower problem. Sounds like it will be one mean truck when it is all broken in and completed. Gotta admit, you have some guts taking a brand new truck and completely modifying it like that without worrying about warrany implications. Keep us informed on your numbers after you get it on the dyno and good luck with your project.

What the heck is a 2lb upper? Is that 2lbs more than the standard 3.5" pulley which comes with the KB or is it a modified 2lb upper from a stock eaton supercharger?

It is a 3.25 upper, 1/4 inch smaller than the stock 3.5. I was told it would add an additional 2 lbs.

Actually the boost guage showed 17lbs in total before the seize, but I think that has to do with the air kit, accufab and pulleys combined.

Has anyone else had any problems with their KB's seizing up? Did you figure out the actual problem with the blower?

According to KB I am the second owner to have a problem with the 2nd generation charger model. The first problem was related to the fact the installer did not add the required oil.

Until I get it back to them the reason is guess work, but something in my opinion has broken internally. You could hear a clanking noise, like a bolt loose at the bottom of a pan, just before it seized.

Pete, it was great meeting you and the others. I can't wait to get my new one. Remember, I am the first to seize due to manufacturer challenges with the "second generation" style twin screw.

You know the dyno results, once I go for the med tune with Paul I will be ready for the track. I can't imagine more on the road and keeping the tires down, it really was amazing. What a great challenge keeping the tires down.

It is almost nine and I am two bolts away from pulling her, but I need a long shaft 13mm - time to go to the tool shop. I will have her off tomorrow and calling fed ex on Wednesday.

Yeah baby!

Hey Dan,

Glad to hear you are moving along with your mods. Sorry to hear about the KB, that sucks but it sounds like you pretty are patient. I would love to go for a ride! Or maybe not... I know it will get me bugged up to start modding my nearly stock L. I saw a black L by Boat US last week, I thought it may have been yours since it is close to where you live, but it was an 01 or 02.
Where do you plan to race?

Good luck.

The Naples, Bonita and Fort Myers boys are very simply going to have to get together in August. Enough talk. The third Tuesday of every month the SVT club gets together at Galloway for a meet.

We should all make certain we are there in August. I will keep everyone posted. I should be back on the road by late next week, but I need to put some miles on her before I race. I don't know of any other tracks than Charlotte and Immokolee (spelling ?).

I want that medium tune before I hit the track and Paul at REM wants a minimum of 2500 miles on her, 1800 to go.

Aug 19th is the 3rd Tuesday, What time is the meet and how long does it go for?
Doh. I have to work late on the 19th
I only knew of Immakolee
Does Charlotte have a strip? I have been to the Charlotte County Speedway (circle track) to watch a few years ago.
I thought maybe you would be racing at Morroso or somewhere else on the east coast with a 1/4mile track since Immokalee is only an 1/8 mile.
Let me know when you go. I will try to make it.

Mine with the same combination 3.25" upper and 9" lower I was seeing 16lbs, and saw 17lbs a couple of times before putting the 3.50" on it.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck with the KB, but I am sure it will all work out!
