I wouldn't worry about it. Many of us have had our KB's on for quite a while with no issues. You'll be fine....anything mechanical and man made can and will have something wrong at some point.

I have over 10K miles on my KB mostly running 18-22 psi. No problems. I have changed the oil once so far and everything looks good and sounds good.

Hopefully Dan will have it running this weekend if all goes well.
We keep in touch and he's been keeping me up to date. I'll let him explain, but he found some tiny remains of the KB gone bad and he rather be safe than sorry, so he had some removing and cleaning to do
Nothing too insane....

Update

Hey guys,

O.K. when I took the KB off I found shavings of metal on top of the intercooler, nothing in the bowl but just to be safe I took off the manifold (wow, never thought I would be this involved with my L) and I could not see any shavings, but I cleaned each intake port to be safe. Remnants of the metal were in the shop vac with some of the coolant that had spilt down, but I can't actually determine whether the remnants are from the first clean of the intercooler or the last clean of the intake ports. The bottom line is she is clean now or as clean as she is going to get.

The KB came in on Wednesday and I am assembling today along with a 160 degree thermostat and my new polished plenum (exterior and interior). I will have to get some pictures when I am done.

KB called me and told me not to use the stock plenum bolts with the new KB, they are apparently too long and can cause a slight vacuum leak, so I am shortening my orginals this morning before I install. KB had not yet determined what went wrong, but they told me that they would let me know.

Overall it has been a slight pain in the ***, but I have learned a tremendous amount and to be honest I really enjoy this, so life goes on and I just hope she runs when I turn the key. LOL, I will keep you informed and hopefully I will figure out how to post some pictures for everyone.

Thanks again for all the support and good advice!

I will only get better. Think of this a a "Speed Bump" in the road. When it is all done, you will forget about all the problems. If you would have not done any mods, then you probably would have been bored with the truck by now and would have been spending the time, money and effort on some other project. It will be worth it! KB Instructions Missing a Step?

Dan_03Lightning,

You mentioned in an earlier post: "KB called me and told me not to use the stock plenum bolts with the new KB, they are apparently too long and can cause a slight vacuum leak, so I am shortening my orginals this morning before I install."

Is this tip not included in their instructions? Do they not provide shorter/appropriately sized hardware?

Just wondering since I'm only a couple of weeks away from joing the club.

Incidentally, sorry to hear about your mechanical misfortunes!

Gary, I am not certain if they are in the instructions or not? The second KB I was sent did not include the instructions. Victor from KB simply called me the day I received the new one to give me that tip.

They do not supply shorter bolts for the plenum, but it was a pce of cake shortening the originals. A little elbow grease with the hack saw and making certain I had a nut on to back off and ensure a good thread.

They went in easy.

You are going to love the KB club. I was amazed at the difference and I have a very conservative tune do to the very low mileage on the truck (700). Once I get in the 2500 mile range Paul at REM is going to retune and we will dyno for the results, but I am anticipating 430 hp and 500+ torque at the rear.
