Track tech told me I need a ds loop since I run in the 13's. Is this right?

I went to the track on Friday and while in tech the guy told me that I needed a ds loop because I run 13's. My understanding is that you only need a ds loop if you are in the 12's and/or have slicks. I have been to this track once before and they never said anything about it till Friday. Another track that I go to has never said anything to me about it.

The fastest I have run is 13.7@101mph (I am stock). Do I really need a ds loop?

Thx

As far as I know you only need the DS loop when running slicks.

DS Loop is required on all vehicles running 13.99 and quicker with slicks, and 12.99 and quicker with street tires. So if you are going 13.7s and are running stock tires, no you don't need one.

That sounds right for NHRA, you can run up to 11.50 with DOT's in IHRA w/o a loop!!

That might be one of the tracks personal rules.

You Think That's Bad?

Gang:

You think THAT is bad?

There's a guy I know who runs a BAD-AZZ C4 Corvette regularly at Tri-State Dragway here in Cincy.

It's a convertible, no roll cage or bar, slicks, no loop, stock seatbelts, you get the idea...

He has a built Lingenfelter motor and a big two-stage nitrous system. He runs 10.3's at around 130 MPH all night. No problems with the tech guys, as far as I can tell.

I swear I saw him make a pass without a helmet recently, but I can't be sure of that...

for 60.00 and an a half hour of your time just bolt one in to avoid any problems teching in at the track, not to mention the saftey value of avoiding a DS pole vault.

I race my 12-second truck at US41 with shorts on in the summer LOL. Don't you just love po-dunk tracks?

Yep, San Antonio Raceway and Edinburg Internantional Raceway require all vehicles running 13.99 and quicker to have a drive shaft loop regardless of whether your running slicks or DOT approved tires. It appears some tracks are raising the bar on safety.
