Thanks Buzz

Once the 1st 2 fuses popped, I broke out the testers. the fan had a solid ground, and I verified the wiring with Chris above in this post ( via phone ). Before, and after everything was buttoned up, I ran the fan with the override switch for 1 minute each time, there was no evidence of trouble. I yanked the whole assembly out and checked the wiring for any ( again, see above ) nicks, cuts, kinks, 180 degree bends, or burns to the wires, solid connections, no exposed wire. The fan is a ford 4.6 fan, and the fan I do not think is the issue, rather either the temp sensor or relay. I wanted this thing to work more than anyone on the board, but unreliability is a sin I will not forgive - not meant to be a shot at Tom or his part(s), I'm not the only person in here to have a problem (from whatever vendor)... I could do with the extra mpg, but I won't chance it now.

Post

well ad me to the list, spent all afternoon on the Outreageous E-fan and cobra-r pump. got it all buttoned up, and pop!! the fuse blew. tried the manual switch same result. don't know if it zapped my ac relay, because i no longer have cold air. i hope there might be a fuse somewhere else blown for the ac. i don't want to bring it to the dealer. the instructions weren't real clear as to placement of the red wire (on Mine) it was shown in between the right side clip and the bottom clip. the black and blue were ok as was the ground and gray temp probe. mine really feels like it has a dead short somwhere

What year truck BBQ?

Mine's a 2001...

Did it die when, or immediately after you _started_ the truck ?
If so, was the A/C on or off (mine was off). Mine worked swimmingly... right up to the point that I started the truck...

I'm wondering if it got "double fed" power...

Not sure why you guys are blowing fuses but we did talk with PermaCool and decided to change the wiring a little. This goes out to all that have purchased a fan kit from us (having problems or not). If you would like the updated wiring please contact us and either we will send out a complete kit or just all the electronics. It is up to each person what they would like to do.

For those that want to know what has changed. We always had a relay running the fan but had the relay before the thermostat for the fan. This allowed all the current to run in the thermostat assembly. We are thinking this has caused the problems. We are now making the kit where the thermostat is being fed by a swithed source and the relay is after the thermostat feeding the fan. This way the current is not overheating the circuits in the thermostat.

Again, having problems or not we will swap for the newer wiring.
