Question about gas brands?

OK, this has been covered before.

What brands have the best quality high octane?

I have heard that Amaco is the best,

But out of Sunoco 94
Citco 93
Mobil 93

whos the best and worst and why?

any help would be good.

I use to run ONLY Amoco 93 bought from only two stations.
But after clogging a fuel filter in 3 thousand miles I decided to never use those two station again, AND HAVEN'T
Never had a problem with the fuel, but one of those stations obviously has crap in their tank

Now I only use Sunoco Ultra 94
and only from one station
AND I LOVE IT

Unocal 76 - 91 or 100
Mobil - 91

Only two i use here in Ca.

$1.83 gallon typically until you head to northern ca... Price goes up to as high as $ .45 gallon.

100 Octane Union 76 is $5.25/gal at pump here locally.
103 Octane VP Fuel is $4.75/gal at pump here locally.

Jerkoff gas station attendent....

I will only run Sunoco Ultra 94 in my truck.....

However, last night on my way to Atco in NJ, I stopped at sunoco to get some gas....I was in full street trim and only wanted a few passes to make sure that the truck is running ok....So I figured that I would get some gas so that I wouldn't have to stop on the way home.......

Soooooooo I get to the pump and tell the guy(I wont call him any bad names yet) to give me 20 bucks ultra....He confirms and says .."ok..ultra"......Sooooooo now I start to wash my windshield, go to put the squegee away and happen to look over at the pump.....W T F.....He had hit the regular button and it had already put 13 gals of ***** into the tank....So I literally jump over the back of the truck to stop the pump, and I start freaking out on the guy.....After 5 minutes of screaming, and calling him every name in the book, I told him that when my motor detonates, pings, and blows up, that he can pay for the repairs......

So I filled it the rest with ultra, it took another 5.9 gals....So it looks like that I had about 6 or so gallons of ultra in the tank already....That means on the full tank, I got about 12 gallons @ 94 octane, and 13 gallons @ 87 octane and should mix to about 90-91 octane......Guess I won't be getting into boost for the rest of the tank......

That's why I pump my own gas. Hell, I didn't even know they still had full service Sunoco's around.

The 100-Octane 76 is only 4.25 at the station in Agoura

I use only Chevron 91oct. in my truck. (Except when I race, I use the 100oct. 76 gas) My truck detonates on 76 91oct...

Kind of a drive for me Dale. Although i like the cool blue 76 100, its just cheaper for me to get the VP shizzle.

That 76 100 i price quoted was from when i drove way down to newport to get you fuel that day at the track, then spiced it up at home

This is a little off of the thread topic but I thought you might find this interesting.

Just because the sign says Chevron, Texaco, Shell, Diamond Shamrock, Citgo, Sunoco, Exxon etc.....doesn't necessarily mean that your getting fuel that comes from those specific companies.

I work for an oil refinery here in Corpus Christi and we supply 90% of the gasoline and diesel for Austin via direct pipeline to a terminal. So most of the gas stations in Austin use our fuel even though they have some of the names I listed above. But we have a very stringent QA/QC program because we also make special fuels for the DOD so we make a top notch fuel that our customers can count on.

When I worked for Clark Oil just south of Chicago, we supplied about 40% of the gasoline for the Chicago area. So the same thing applies.

Here are some other things to think about. Never get gas from an old station. Some of the older stations have carbon steel underground storage tanks and most of them are at the end of their life cycle. They are rusting and some have small holes. When the tank level is low, a good rain storm can and does wash dirt into the tank. Needless to say you dont want that crap in your gas tank.

The reason I say stay away from old stations is because you have no idea if they still have the old tanks or if they have the new ones.

When I did underground storage tank remediation, we pulled a tank one time that had about 2 1/2 feet of dirt inside the bottom. Just imagine putting fuel in your truck from that tank.

Yep, same here in Oregon. It sucks! It's been on the ballot a few times, but the senior citizen groups complain that they won't be able to pump their own gas. Well, if they can't pump it, then they shouldn't be driving (example:southern california accident involving 86 year old man). Besides, I figure if Florida can pump their own, then anybody should be able to do it. Florida doesn't have anybody under the age of 70 do they? j/k
