How is a chip tuned

pretty self explanatory. do the tuners just download programs from the chips site, if so there must be a million programs.

yes there is a central BBS full of programs that are downloaded onto a chip. It's the "tuners" who actually choose what program goes on to your chips. seriously modded vehicles won't have a premade program and would require the company to actually make a program. Diablo for example will custom make you a program but you need to dyno many times to check a/f's.

Most of the other chip companies work like this, but Autologic dealers like myself do not. We do all the programming in house. All we get from the mother company is the software for the particular PCM, and a stock file. We do all the calibration changes. Just FYI.

so basically tuners dont really tune, they choose, so they are actually choosers.
how do they choose what program to use?

Father in-law just picked up a brand new Silverado with the Duramax turbo diesel. He had the exhaust modded new air-box and a Diablo chip put in. Heres the question, he got a box that has a hand held unit that he say's plugs into the chip and tunes the power up and down. The dealer told him (I was there for this part) make sure you tune it back down before you come in for service. Everything I read here says you need a custom burned chip, whats the differance for his rig? Tim.

Eatoncharged, see my post above, we make programs from scratch per truck, we do not choose from a premade selection provided by the mother company.

you have to contact diablo and ghive them a ***** load of information including a copy of your "business license"

and yes basically the "tuners" are "choosers" they choose the program depending on the mods you have and what they feel would be a safe program for your truck.

My local dealership also "tunes." They offer Superchips and tried to sell me one. Told me to sit next to the "tuner" at the computer and choose from a list of programs, such as "4# street," etc. The process took less than 10 minutes and most of it was me trying to decide on what I wanted.

I ended up not purchasing....of course.

Which is why I would choose an Autologic!
