Anyone out there hide nitrous?
Anyone out there hide nitrous?
I know that's kinda oxie moron. Cause if they were really hiding it, they MAY not want people to know they have it... But anyway...
not sure if anyone has any pics of it installed who is hiding it...
But a buddy of mine and I went out to chicago the other day and there was like 50 cars out there. It was awsome. A few other L's an 03 cobra, a vette... Me and my buddy were there in our 2000 Lightnings, and my friends with the 360r and the 99ss...
Anyway long story short. My 1 friend thinks he can hide nitrous in my truck somehow where if they pop my hood, they won't see. I don't think there is anyway. I may be wrong, but how do you do that cleanly?
That's a zex kit on an L. I just dont see how ya get the lines into the mass air without anyone seeing. And I dont know where else you can put that comuter box at. He said it'd only be a 50 shot and we wouldnt need a purge... But he thinks he can make it hard to notice. My question is not for tips on how to do it really, but im just wondering if anyone out there has it in and can tell me people haven't seen it. (cause they hid it a little)
If I can get some pics also i'd appreciate it.
again, I am not thinking of running nitrous at the current time. This is just a side bet with a buddy of mine on the install... I don't think hiding it is that easy on the L's. I may be wrong. Just thought I'd ask. Thanks, Shane

That's my truck! Anyway, I put a lot of thought into hiding my kit when installing it, and I just couldnt figure out how it could be done. If I was going to hide the kit, it was going to be TOTALLY hidden. First off, I started with the switches. I looked in the upper console, and thought about hiding them in the sunglass holder. The switches were WAY too deep to fit in there. I couldn't really find anywhere that would be hidden and I could reach. Second, the bottle. Really, the only place I could hide it would be in a console, or behind my seat. I don't really feel confortable about sitting next to a bottle, so I scratched that idea aswell. Last, the brains and lines. Yeah, im sure I could custom fabricate some kind of lid or box that covered the brains, but the fuel/nitrous lines feeding into the nozzle in the intake boot. I honestly could not think of ANY way to hide this. ANY person who knows cars can easily spot a nitrous install if they pop your hood. In order to hide it completely, you need to hide all of its components too, and it just wasn't worth trying. Besides, who would want to hide all the beautiful purple stuff anyhow?

First thing I would do, would be to paint all those purple parts black, and cover your SS line with OEM looking rubber hose w/OEM style clamp ends. You could relocate the head unit down the firewall, behind some of those hoses. You'd have to relocate the purge elsewhere, why not run the tubing to the front of the grill? connect your jets to the MAF from the underside, running the wiring along the bottom of the intake tube.
Keep the bottle in the bed, covered with the tonneau. Mount your switches and NX gauge in the armrest. It's alot of work, but you could go with a stealth setup in there.
Someone not familiar with the underhood layout of the L could easily overlook a few extra OEM looking hoses..

I hid it a bunch of times for people on Mustangs. One trick is to epoxy the nozzles inside the rubber air intake elbow just in front of the throttle body and run the lines through the fenderwell. The bottle was hidden inside subwoofers, or we just wouldn't allow anybody to look in the drivers compartment.
For racing, you have to just barely win. You can't kick the ***** out of somebody and expect another race. When you get the second race, turn the wick up a little.

How to:
Paint the brain black. Locate it under the fuse box.
Run the lines inside the fenderwall and into your cone filter, through the MAF and up to the throttle. Epoxy in place.
Bottle in the bed, or a cheater bottle (2-5lb) inside the drivers side wheel liner.
With a cheater bottle you wouldn't need a purge.
Wire up electonics to wire off when you turn on the fogs and no driving lights...
There you go. Virtually hidden.

It didn't really bother me much not hiding it, because once anyone knows anything about my truck around here, EVERYONE knows. People somehow knew I had the kit before I even installed it... who knows.
