What do you guys think? Am I on the right track?
Those you mentioned here are a great speaker, but they are a component 5x7 set and If I remember correctly the L's do not have 5x7 componets meaning you'd have to cut a hole in your door panal or something for the tweeter....I would suggest doing what everyone else says and go with a 6.5" component set instead so you can put the mid and tweet in the same plate.

Yep, their quality and Performance are second to none. There are many high quality companys out there, but JL is very good stuff! Others to look at would be boston acoustic, focal, mb quart (now owned by Rockford Fosgate), eclipse. All very nice products!

My new system includes a shallow 8" in the doors with 5 1/4 and tweeter in the kicks. I think it's a pretty hot setup. Making the 8's work was time consuming though.

Not one of your posted choices but I have Boston Acoustics 5x7's in the 4 factory locations and have been very happy, major sound inprovement, drop in and zero problems in over a year.

That's the setup I want. What speakers did you go with? How involved was it to make the 8 incher work? And most importantly...wanna do it for me??

I give a BIG for any of the JL mids and highs. I am currently running the XR570-CXi in my front doors and the XR525-CSi mid in the back panels with the tweeters up front in the A-pillars. They sound fantastic and have tremedous mid bass for their price range and size.

I did run the XR570-CXi off the factory deck for a while, and I was pleased with that sound versus the stock speakers. However, they sound way better amplified.

I went with the Kicker Resolution 8. There are only a handful of shallow 8's out there for this application. Making it fit involved cutting a lot of metal and creating two 1/4" MDF plates to build up the area. Once I perfected it on one side, the other side went quick.

The components in the kicks are Focal.

Come on down to St Louis, I love cutting into other people's vehicles
