I thought prior to the 4V, they used a very weak version of the 4R100?

Does the 4X4 still use the 4R100? Kind of curious.

Yea you had better talk to Greg. Once you engage the 4wd, your gear ratio drops and with the torque that that L powerplant makes I think you will shread your stock T-case. You may want to check the rest of the drivetrain as well to ensure it will handle the torque. Just a suggestion.

You will definitely have youself a sleeper!

engine swap

your are going to have to change all other harnesses in the cab the 12A581 harness under the hood will not plug in into the 14401 which is the harness in the cab and match up then you will have change all other modules and fuse box, multifunction switch can be used from the lightning, speedometer you can use from the lightning, all airbag system will have to go, you can use the bags but you will have to change the rest, you can cut the bracket off the lightning and tack weld it to your cab body, and you can use the airbag module from the lightning, now you will have to oder a 14401 harness from the year you have the lightning engine from in a expedition harness, also you will need a 14405 which is the frame harness for the tank with the daul pumps. there is a little more, contact me and i can give you all the parts #s. gary (843) 816-2504

Wow guys thanks for all the info. Does the gear ratio change just by going into AWD, not 4wd? Gary, you seem to know a lot of the info that I need. I will be giving you a call. Is it possible to just swap harnesses or must they be bought?

WHOA

the trannys ARE NOT THE SAME..

they may have the same outter casting, but the internals are different!

The Lightning tranny is the strongest tranny every put into a passenger vehicle... (Gregg said that)

My mistake 78mphgpr....didn't see the awd option. Sorry about that...I was thinking 4wd. :o Looks like I need to sharpen my reading skills. However I would check to see is there are any gear ratio differences in awd as well.

engine swap

you will not be able to keep the cluster and all the harness have to bought or you can get them from a salvage yard, sorry i meant navi but it has to be the same year as the lightning that you have, you can use the 14405 on the frame to the tank and you can use the fuell pumps they will bolt right in and will read correctly. let me know if you need anymore help i have helped 9 guys do the swap, some 4wd, some into 99 stepsides, and some 97and 98 supercabs. gary

Sorry, i could snap a Viper Spec T-56 tranny to pieces in one outting in the track. When you need a serious tranny to hold power, you go auto, ricer.

I think Gregg said stock a 4R100 can take approx 1100 lbs of torque. Of course, our tq gets multiplied by 2X when it hits the torque converter.

Hey 78mphgpr: Im not trying to discourage anything but why not just add a Kenny Bell blower to the Navi. The 4V has much more potential and would be much easier, even if you have to build a forged bottom on the current 4V. Also just to let you know, the Lightnings do not have forged internals.
