Cool help convert an f-body guy

I just want to hear what you all have to say about your lightnings. I drive a 95 Z28 Heads, cam, etc and it is a high 11 sec car. I have really been looking into getting rid of it and getting a L. I know that I am going to be going into something slower at first. I don't care that much. I have replaced everything in my car except the a/c, and the power steering, and I think that it might be time for a new project. I have always been a truck guy, but I got tired of being beaten by camaro's so I gave in and got one. I would like to get back into trucks again.

I basically wanted to hear your ideas and your experiences with your lightnings. Anything good, or anything bad to maybe help me make my decision. Thanks

Aaron

Well, you could go over HERE http://www.kyfbodies.org/vb/forumdis...p?s=&forumid=9

And ask the guys what they think of my Lightning ... Or if
you're anywhere near any of us, someone would prolly trade
rides in your car for a scoot in the Bolt ...

either way, good luck !!! You will LOVE having the truck ..

its a great truck, fast, mostly reliable, and you can haul crap. plus i think they get a lot more looks than a camaro. camaros are a dime a dozen, lightnings arent. plus, chicks dig trucks.

And they haul a lot more *** then cars...

You can fit a lot of women in the back bed and still not go over the weight rating...

with very few mods
chip, pulley and intake system, you can get in the 12's.
you can buy all this used for about $500.
the chip must be custom burned for your setup, so that might cost $100 or so.

Lightnings in the 12's are common.
Lightnings in the 11's are getting more common.
lightnings in the 10's are extremly rare.

Stock they run in the 13's... depending on heat and altitude.

remember Lightnings HATE HEAT.
with the supercharger, the air heats up and expands = less power.

The best thing is when you get on it, the supercharger whine can be heard for blocks away (depending on the size of the pulley)

plus how many vehicles that you know of have suede leather interior.

go to a dealership and test drive one.

I did go and test drive one and I absolutely loved it. It was an 00 and didn't feel that fast, but the ride, sound, and the a/c were awesome. The main dilema that I am having is that my car is paid off, and I want to make sure that the payment is worth paying to have the L over my Z. I am pretty convinced, and I am actually trying to sell it right now. Once it is sold I am going to try very hard to get a L. I am 20 and I don't have much credit as of yet, so I am going to have to get my parents help getting a loan, and they have their hearts set that I am going to regret buying a lighting because it isn't extended cab(not to mention that we are a chevy family).

Keep the opinions coming. I really like to hear what you all have to say. Thanks again.

for what it's worth

former owner of a 96z and a 01z..both cars I loved.... but I like the Lightning much more..you won'tegret it..

And of course the truck is slow compared to an 11 second Mullet

Nothin beats blower whine

I have a 95 Z28 (see sig), and an 03 Lightning, lets just put it this way, since I bought the Lightning (6 months ago) I have driven the Z28 twice!
So needless to say I really enjoy the Lightning more than I ever did the Z28 but I still have the screen name and the memories...LOL

Cool

One thing to look at as well, is the low-mid range torque. Despite what some yahoo's might say 99% of the time we don't drive at WOT and 5000+ rpms. We drive at lower throttle inputs. And this things makes BIG torque right off idle. So pulling away from a light, passing, or just merging into traffic is a pleasure in it'self without having to hit 5,000rpms and WOT like in a NA car/truck.

Simply put it may not have the same 1/4 ETs as your modded Z, but it'll be much more livable on a daily basis and nobody can call it a slug.

BTW: Get a 01+ M.Y. if you can. They have a few upgrades that are worth it IMO.

Good luck, and welcome to the dark side.

WOT

Going from my 99 Stang GT to my 02 L, my insurance DROPPED by $40 per 6 months. The truck is more expensive with more power, yet it's still cheaper. Fact is, the guys driving L's are generally a little older and wiser than the guys driving the Camaros and Stangs.

I too had a 95 Z28 a few years back. It was fun, and I loved driving it, but I'd take my L any day.

my parents tried to talk me into the harley because of the larger cab, but i got the L, and have never looked back. i drove my dad's 02 CLK 430 convertible for a week while my L was in the shop, and could not wait to get my truck back!

go with the L!

ps, i was a chevy man until i drove this thing for the first time, and i like it better everyday (and i am not exagerrating)

Damn it, I want a L. Too bad I'm only 17 and my parents sure in hell aren't getting me one. It'll be about 3 years before I can afford to get one. Oh well, I can drool. I think I'll rent one for homecoming and prom
