Just go to a quarter (now $1.50) wash and go to town. Just try and go light around the alternator and spark plugs. Oh and if you have an open element filter don't spray on that either.

I just put a publix bag over the cone filter, spray a bunch of degreaser all over the engine and everything else, then hose off, I dont like to use a power washer, you dont need to use high pressure if your degreaser is good.

comes out looking new every time

On a cold engine, shoot almost EVERYTHING with Simple Green... the stuff just plain ROCKS!!

The take your garden hose, and spray it all off - be sure to dry out the coil pack area well, and like others have said, cover or try to miss your open filter.

My 32k '01 engine bay still look slike it came off the showroom floor.

Here was my 41,000 mile engine bay in my '99. It was driven everyday, in the snow/salt ad the engine was never washed. I wiped it down on every wash, and used tire protectant on all the rubber stuff. I also waxed all the finished metal parts:

as a matter of fact i just degreased the engine today!

my friends have been giving me crap cause it's been so dirty lately, i usually clean it every oil change...

i just cover the open filter w/ a plastic bag, spray it with a hose, take simple green/ or a "foam" engine degreaser, spray it all around, and then take a scrubber type thing and scrub the intake, s/c, and all the containers for the fluids, and then i rinse it all off, then take a towel and dry it all off, and then it looks pretty good, allthough i cant get mine as clean as KONIG's...

every now and then I use some of that "wax as you dry" stuff on a rag after everything is dry and clean. It makes everything look new without dirt sticking to it like it does with the tire sprays some people use. You shouldnt ever have to scrub anything unless you drive on dirty roads a lot.
