Sorry for this probably repeated question..

I'm going to go look at a used 2K Black L with 25k on it. Are there any good tells to see if it has been run in the ground? I'm not real familiar with these trucks and their probs yet. TIA

welcome to F150 online...first i would look to see if the intercooler has been changed. they had a recall on the 99-00 Lightnings. then i would see if it had a chip installed, and get some carfax on it.

 

Check the rear wheelwells for rubber. My original F1's lasted 22K, so it would be nice if it had 4 'somewhat' new sneakers on it.

I'd say just take it for a drive and listen for anything abnormal, make sure the trans shifts good, and the truck brakes and stops smoothly. Take a look underneath and check for signs of damage.

Oh, and warranties are always a good thing.

How will I know the diference in the intercooler?

Is the computer in the same basic place as in the mustangs? I have had a few of those heh

And I checked the carfax and it shows no probs with it.

the computer goes threw the fire wall on the far right, passanger side. to check on the intercooler you can get the vin# and call 1800FORDSVT

 

Ok thanks you guys I'm gonna check all that out and the basic car checks as well of course. Just didn't know what I needed to check on for the L. There isn't supposed to be any mods except for an air filter. Older guy has it as a garaged toy.

I bought my '99 L in january with 3000 miles on it for $17k.

This fall i am selling it, it'll probably have about 12k on it by then.

 

wait a recall on the intercooler i have a 2000 L i didn't know that whats wrong with it

 

The recall has unfortunately come and gone.....

You will know your intercooler needs to be replaced when the reservoir is empty. The reason for the recall was the intercooler developed leaks.
