WTF - Bed hit back of cab and left small dent???

I don't know how the hell this could happen, however, when I was cleaning my truck today I noticed a 3/4 inch long indentation on the back of the cab (drivers side corner) - about an inch away from the truck bed. I then noticed that the paint on the truck bed was worn away in the same pattern as the indentation on my truck cab. My question is this - Is my truck bed loose, or can it flex enough to actually hit the back of the cab???? I tried to move the bed and it does not seem to be loose - but who knows??? Has this happened to anyone?

Could someone have bumped into your rear bumper at an angle where it would cause this to happen? Just thinking out loud for you.

Have you done hard launches lately? Could be a loose bed...which you can check just by seeing the tightness of those huge Torx bolts in your bed.

cyntaxx-

Those are some good points. I checked my rear bumper, and I can find no evidence of someone hitting me (you scared me for a minute there - I was out in the garage in 2 seconds flat when I read your response).

Regarding hard launches - daily...... That is an interesting point - I am going to do some testing on this one - e.g. put some wax or something on the corner of the bed to see if it does hit during hard launches.

Regarding the bolts, unfortunately, I have a bed liner with a whole bunch of stuff - (2) nitrous tanks, power cooler, etc... bolted to it. I am hoping that I can avoid taking it all apart. I tried to move the bed myself, and it won't budge an inch.

Thx for the input. It is greatly appreciated.

Dave

This would be an excellent place to start...especially if you are racing the truck soon anyway. Sorry to scare you..

Welcome to the club !!! It's a very common problem.

Happens when you go across a speed bump kinda hard ...

The bed isn't mounted square most of the times from the
factory and it hits the cab when it flexes ...

I'd suggest you get the torx and realign your bed. There are only 6 bolts to loosen in the bed, and it should not take you more than 30min.

Dave, sorry to hear about the bents on the cab from the bed. Wish I had some helpful advice.

BTW, I hope the bedrug will be here Monday. I'll e-mail to let you know it got here, and ask ya where to send the check/money order too. You sir, are one stand up, kind of guy!!! I'm like a 10 year old at X-mas time just waiting for it to get here.

i have seen it happen quite often while off-roading from the frame twisting but i have also seen it happen from speed bumps, potholes, etc.... im not sure that there is much of a way to fix it unless your bed needs lined up

Someone here posted a long time back that when he\she went over a speed bump a little to fast and the back of the bed came into the contact with the cab of the truck. Turns out that the there was a huge difference between the distance from the cab to the bed on the right and left side. I would take a quick measurement. Maybe the drivers side sits closer then the passenger side and you are having contact.
