Question Need some help on rim size for slicks.

I am buying rims for slicks and skinnies for the L and I need some help on the sizes. I do know that I want to run a 15" rim front and back. I was thinking 15x10 for the back. I'm not too sure what to run in the front yet. Anyone else out there have skinnies when they go to the track??

Get Don's Bolt on the case.....I forget his sizes (back are 30" on a 15" rim) but he's got a pretty good set up!

I could tell you what to use for 16", but don't know for 15" I do know with 15" you will have to grind and reposition some brakes.

I have 16x10 rears (M/T wheels) and 16x7 fronts (OEM F150 wheels)

It all depends how much power you will be making and how fast(et) you want to go.

If you are planning to run mid to high 11's or in the 12's the hoosier 28x10-16 slicks on a 16x10 rim will work fine.

If you want to get into the low 11's or into the 10's then you will prob need to get a 15 inch rim. To get a 15 inch rim to fit you have to do quite a bit of modifications to the rear brakes. Also depending on the offset of the rim you may have to fabricate a bracket to move the parking brake cables inward.

There are a few choices on slicks for 15 inch rims
there are 2 - 30 inch sizes
a radial and a non radial.

The radial will be a little faster on a real good hooking track, while the non radial will hook better, and may be a better choice on a iffy track.

As far as front tires go, it all depends if you want to drive to the track with the fron tires on or change them at the track.

I went with a set of 16x7 weld rims, with a set of continental 4x4 contacts 225/70HR16 they are 28.4 tall and if I remember they have a load rating of 1950lbs. They were the closest load rating and overall diamiter as the goodyears. Also they are a H rated tire, so I feel comfortable taking them up to 130 mph at the track.

If you want to go for 15 inch front tires, Bogart makes a few sets that will fit our trucks, but they and the tires that will fit them, are for track use only. To get the fronts to fit is pritty easy, just a little grinding to the outside of the front calipers.

Hope that helps.

Don
